Cedar Rapids West Rotary has had a partnership with Kirkwood Community College for several years. Every year, the club provides scholarships to Kirkwood for one well-deserving senior at Cedar Rapids-area high schools.
Allison is the scholarship and annual fund officer for Kikwood. She joined us for this year's scholarship day and wants to come back to tell us more about all of the great work at Kirkwood and share details about the future of one of the county's top community colleges.
Last Week: Medical Lending Closet, Susie Olson
Our most recent speakers were Susan Reeve and Susie Olson, with Grace Episopal Church’s Medical Lending Closet. It’s a free service that lends out crutches, wheelchairs, knee scooters and a wide array of medical equipment, even CPAP machines. Last year, they gave out 11,000 pieces of equipment.
Who would have thought a few thousand ping pong balls dropped from a scissor lift could raise thousands of dollars to enrich our community and support projects and scholarships that make a difference.
Big Drop coordinator Chuck Kudej will talk with us about the plans for the day of The Drop and we'll tell you how to get your t-shirt if you bought one. Lunch will be served, so be on the lookout for Larry's lunch email.
The Big Drop is August 1 in downtown Cedar Rapids during the Farmer's Market. We set up at the corner of 5th Street SE and 4th Ave SE by Green Square Park and the Downtown Library.

August 1: The Big Drop is Cedar Rapids West Rotary's biggest fundraiser of the year! Join us as early as 7:30 a.m. or hopefully no later than 9 a.m. We need to sell as many last minute balls as we can before the drop at noon! The Big Drop is in downtown Cedar Rapids at the corner of 5th Street SE and 4th Ave SE by Green Square Park and Library.
