Board News
Complete Board minutes are available on the website.

We continue to need a President-elect for next year.  Please consider volunteering, even if you had the opportunity to serve in the past or are a newer member.  It is a very worthwhile experience and you really do discover how terrific of an organization Rotary is.

The Big Drop remains planned for August 7.  It was decided that we will audit the balls on July 22.  Hopefully is can be at the Cherry Building again.  We will treat this as our service project for July and cancel our July 28 meeting at the Museum.

We also still need someone from the Club to act as our Interact contact with Washington High School.

Membership request

It's hard to believe that we are on the home stretch of our 2020-2021 Rotary fiscal year ending June 30th, but here we are!  As we prepare for our 2021-2022 year, the Board and President -Elect Matt are asking members to let us know if you WILL NOT be continuing your club membership.  We are required to pay District and International dues for all active members who are on our database July 1st, which totals approximately $145 a year.  If members decide to resign after July 1st, the club is still obligated to pay these dues.  We take fiscal responsibility of our club's resources very seriously and this is one way you can help.  It is our hope that all of our current members continue, but if is your intention NOT to continue with your club membership next year, please let us know by June 16th.

Kirkwood Foundation Honor
As a result of our Kirkwood Scholarship awards we have been recognized by the Kirkwood Foundation.  We will be listed in their Annual Report and on their website as part of the President's Circle.  It was noted that the impact of our Club's generosity on an individual's life cannot be underestimated.  Education is the key to moving goals forward and seeking better paying jobs.  Our efforts further strengthen the economic health of this area and our state by helping to train valuable employees in a variety of career services.
June 2 meeting
Our thanks go to Matt and Jeff for performing SA and Cashier duties.  Also, many thanks to Dennis for the tech work and doing the news, to Jamie for the invocation, pledge, and 4way test, and to Dana for leading us in song.

June birthdays include Amy March and Peter Teahen.

Tom announced that the Big Drop Committee would meet after the meeting.  He also noted that the Blues Fest proceeds will now be 50% since there will only be our Club and another entity involved.

Dave noted that volunteers are still needed for RYLA as noted in last week's Bulletin.  We have filled two slots each for RYLA and YRYLA students.  There are other clubs with too many applicants so we will be looking at those applications.

Larry introduced our speaker Monique Hammond who spoke to us about "Hearing Loss-The Silent Epidemic."  Monique shared a PowerPoint with us by zoom.  She lost her hearing from a loud folk band.  It was a life changing experience for her.  She is a registered pharmacist.  As a result of her hearing loss she had to quit her job.  She has written a book on unexpected hearing loss and has spoken to over 175 Rotary Clubs.  Her website is https://hearing-loss-talk.com.

John Z announced the book "Miss Colfax's Light" would be presented to Van Buren in her honor.
