Cedar Rapids West Rotary

With the Labor Day holiday, you have until noon Tuesday to let Larry know if you're attending and eating lunch this week. The menu is: Chicken cordon bleu, corn, red skin potatoes, rolls, and salad.

My brain was already on vacation when I sent out last week's newsletter. Cedar Rapids City Council Member at Large David Maier is with us this week and the Midwest Garden Gal joins us NEXT week.

This Week: Cedar Rapids City Council Member David Maiers

Cashier: Pete Eddington Greeter: Tom VanderVaart

It has been a busy year for the city of Cedar Rapids. Two new data centers are being built, a new casino is well underway plus there's been work on a flood wall and the Citizen's Review Board was dissolved.

Council member David Maier will talk about some of these recent developments, the rest of 2025 and the year to come.

Next Week: The Midwest Garden Gal - Lisa Hinzman Howard
Greeter: Paul Kilburg  Cashier: Bruce Hamous
Lisa Hinzman Howard started The Midwest Garden Gal in 2016 to help gardeners find success in their garden, from a few pots on a patio to multi-bed annual, perennial and veggie paradises. She created and teaches gardening classes around the world and published her first book in 2022.
Last Week's Service Event - HACAP food packaging
Cedar Rapids West Rotarians made quick work of the pallets of canned goods at HACAP’s Food Reservoir in Hiawatha. We packed up nearly 150 food boxes over the lunch hour. These Food as Medicine boxes are given to patients at local hospitals, clinics and doctor's offices when a food need is identified during intake.
The Flight to Fight Polio is airborne! You can follow Peter and Ed's journey by going to flightaware.com and typing in the plane’s tail number: N2160S. There is also a direct link on flighttoendpolio.com.

Don't Forget - Dues are due! If you haven't paid your Rotary dues for July, check your inboxes for the statement from Treasurer Matt Teply or contact Matt directly.
