Cedar Rapids West Rotary

Thanks for taking a break from mowing the grass after all of our recent rain to read this week's newsletter! Stay safe out there and don't forget your sunblock.
Don't forget that there's no in-person meeting this week and that we are meeting next Tuesday night for our service event and then at our regular time on Wednesday for our first July meeting. More Rotary, more often!

    Service above self,

    Mike
We're getting ready for the Big Drop at this month's service event!

We won't be meeting at the NCSML this Wednesday. Instead our service event is next week on Tuesday night, June 30 at 5 p.m. at Anderson Bogert, 4050 River Center Ct NE, Cedar Rapids.

A big part of the Big Drop is making sure that all of the numbered balls are present and accounted for so that each ticket sold has a matching ball. We've got a pretty easy system of walking around the room to drop the balls in numbered groups. You'll definitely get in your steps for the day!

Last Week: June 17: Cedar Rapids Reading Programs, Meredith
Ash
Greeter: Chuck Kudej  Cashier: Chris Carr

Community Engagement Librarian Meredith Ash joined us for an energetic presentation that revealed programs and projects at the library for all interests. After learning about the year-round reading challenges, we also heard about the library's online tools and the different types of hands-on tools you can use in the library's maker space.

Here's a link for the various reading challenges

Next Week: Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival, Brittany Barnhart
Greeter:  Pete Eddington    Cashier:  Tom VanderVaart

The Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival returns this year with a patriotic theme celebrating America’s 250th birthday: “Party Like It’s 1776: America’s Birthday Bash.” Festival events will bring communities across Eastern Iowa together for family fun, entertainment, and patriotic traditions.

A highlight of this year’s celebration is the Freedom Festival Parade, which will be held in Hiawatha for the first time. The festival concludes July 4 with the Celebration of Freedom at McGrath Amphitheatre, featuring live entertainment, family activities, food vendors, and fireworks over downtown Cedar Rapids.

For event details and a complete schedule, visit the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival website.

Please take a few minutes this week to update your bio in ClubRunner and maybe add a photo of your amazing self too! This will help someone match a face to a name after club activities. Make sure to doublecheck your address too as Rotary uses this to reach you by USPS.

How to login to ClubRunner: ClubRunner is the program we use to communicate with club members, manage our web site, and take care of other club business. While it is integrated into a lot of Rotary business, it is separate from your profile through Rotary International where you can donate for a Paul Harris Award, etc.

Logins for ClubRunner are some version of “firstnamelastname.11585” or “firstname.lastname.11585” If you can’t remember which one or if neither works, there are “forgot username” and “forgot password” links. Rotary International logins tend to be the email Rotary info is emailed to, such as newsletters and meal info. They also have a “help” link if you get stuck.
