Program Clarissa Johnson and Karol Sheperd spoke to us about the Freedom Festival. It began with an idea in 1984. Events were held on a limited basis from 1988 to 1995. It obtained non-profit status in 1993. Our own Peter Teahen was involved. After 1995 events grew and the festival became an Eastern Iowa fixture capped with a huge fireworks display. While events had to be limited in 2020 because of COVID, the staff is already planning for 2021. Zoom meetings will continue through September 16 because of safety concerns expressed in the surveys received to date. August Birthdays Penny Olson and John Thorton are celebrating this month. Dana lead us in song wishing them a Happy Birthday. Big Drop and Social Roughly 2000 balls have been sold. Members are encouraged to sell $100 worth of balls! At the social on August 6 3500 balls were audited. Can we sell them all? A big thanks go to Tom, Dana, Charles, Nick, Lijun and David Chadima, Peter and Janet Teahen, Dave and Betsy Kutter, Kim and Larry Kudej, Janette, Liz, Bruce H, Penny, and Jim C for helping with the audit which took a couple of hours to complete. PLEASE LET TOM KNOW IF YOU CAN STILL HELP AT THE DROP ON SATURDAY AUGUST 15 FROM 10-12. IT WILL BE AT THE OLYMPIC 1202 3RD ST SE CR. Save the Date October 10 the Metro Rotary Clubs will be doing a joint service project at Cedar Lake in the morning. Further details will follow.
