About the Alternative Learning System (ALS)
ALS an initiative supported by the Back to School Project in poor areas of the Philippines. It is a learning system that provides a practical alternative to the current education system. When a student does not have a diploma, or cannot get an education through the public schools, our ALS is a much-needed option. We use unique teaching methods, including computer learning, to teach the knowledge needed to get a high school diploma and, the practical skills needed to find employment
There are five branches to the ALS method:
Communication Skills;
Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking;
Sustainable Use of Resources and Productivity;
Development of Self and a Sense of Community; and
Expanding One’s World Vision.
When a student passes the national high school exam, they get their diploma. They can then search for employment or enroll in one of our skills training programs which will give them the practical knowledge they need to get a job.
This year we were able to extend support to a total of 422 ALS learners of all ages
