Port Hope

Thirty-six golfers of various skills and experience gathered on July 18 for the 20th annual Ron Agnew Memorial Golf Tournament. The blistering weather of the previous few days was replaced by a comparatively mild 28 C at the 4:20 shotgun tee off. By the time the golfers gathered for dinner some two hours later on The Mill patio under the shade of the trees, the temperature had dropped to a very pleasant 25 C. The beer and wine from the bar didn’t hurt with the golfers cooling down. Thirteen other guests also joined the golfers for dinner. Dinner was either salmon or steak, both prepared to perfection, with a fresh Caesar salad, broccoli, carrots and beans, and baked potato. Thanks to Francesca and her team for the meal.
Guests of honour were the Agnew family, including the always effervescent Margot Agnew, who not only played the nine-hole course with the other golfers, but handed out prizes to the best players.
For those newer members who didn’t get to meet Ron, he was a long-time member of the club more than 20 years ago. Ron was our club chair for Foundation and contributed at the District level as well. He was an ardent golfer and on his passing it was decided that a tournament would be a fitting legacy of his contribution.
