The Markham Sunrise Rotary Club was formed in 1997 to provide service to the Markham community.

A Rotary Club is made up of members who represent various businesses or professions. Every member is a leader in his or her field. In this way, a Rotary Club represents a cross-section of the community and is a balanced organization. Members work as a team, reaching out to the community at large, to be of service.

The Markham Sunrise Rotary Club is one of twenty-five thousands clubs throughout the world with over one million members, both women and men, striving to help people in need, trying to improve health where disease is rampant, where poverty exists, and providing cultural and educational exchanges to further the ideal of World Peace and Understanding. There are 55 Rotary Clubs in our District.

Since its inception in 1997, The Markham Sunrise Rotary Club has engaged in several projects in both the local and world community.

We are strong supporters of our Markham-Stouffville Hospital and local organizations that help the elderly, the infirm, the functionally disabled, and the families and youth of our community.

We encourage the achievement of high standards of excellence with leadership training seminars for our members, Group Study programs and annual awards to students and members of our police and fire departments.

We strive to make "community" an important part of Markham's social fabric by the organization of local events such as the Markham Santa Claus Parade as well as the Markham Rotary Ribfest.

The Markham Rotary Ribfest has been chosen to partner with the Downtown Markham project as an event to enhance this new community, where people meet, work, play and live.

In co-operation with other Rotary Clubs worldwide, we regularly assist third world countries by providing much needed services, the most prominent being the PolioPlus Program that, since 1985, has had as its goal the global eradication of Polio by the year 2005.

"We need your skill, talent, passion and expertise to help us develop and accomplish projects that make a difference to your community."
