OUTING. Students from Mbekweni who are members of the Mbeko Eco Club enjoyed an outing to Paarl Mountain Reserve to learn about the fauna and flora. They also collected seed from indigenous trees for propagating and re-planting in the reserve. The outing was sponsored by Paarl Rotary. At the centre are Lindsay Lewis, manager of the mountain reserve, and Rotary president Deon Erasmus.
YOU have a family member diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease (which is a form of dementia). What now? Paarl Rotary has developed the Labyrinth Circle seminar, to help family members caring for a dementia patient to cope with this situation (which may feel like being lost in a labyrinth). The guest speakers at the first Labyrinth Circle seminar were (from left) Magda Pienaar and Yolandé Brand of True2You, Rudy du Pont (Paarl Rotary), Prof Dana Niehaus (Department of Psychiatry at Stellenbosch University), and Karen Borochowitz (Dementia SA).
MUSIC. The Paarl town hall was packed for Paarl Rotary’s annual free variety concert for senior citizens who were bused in from Paarl and Wellington. With Rotary president Deon Erasmus (second from left) are performers Triveno Smith, Brenda Wynne, Peter Vanne, Myrlon Ortell, Dave Rawlings and Nic Ames. All the participants offered their services free of charge.
