W elcome to Meeting No. 140 of the Rotary eClub of Latitude 38

President's Message

I hope you are all well and that you finding time for relaxation and time for yourselves and families. In the last two weeks I have been using every spare moment to help with the second biggest Irish Dancing Feis in Australia, solely run by my daughter Brydie's dance school and held in Langwarrin. My husband Paul and I just spent the whole weekend feeding teachers/adjudicators, cleaning, sorting out crises, etc. I have no idea how many steps we did but we were so busy. 200+ dancers, and like most events minimal full-time helpers but it is over for another year. Well sort of..Paul and I have put our hands up to be the key organisers so the current ones can retire from the role when their daughter finishes dancing.

Incoming President, Brian has sent out suggested club roles and positions for all members for the new Rotary year commencing on 1 July as well as a draft calendar and goals. He has received some positive responses which is pleasing. Keep them coming in even though you may want to say "not this year".

Have you joined a Rotary Fellowship yet? If not go click here for more information.

Remember that the club changeover is approaching (8 July, 12.30pm, online) and we still expect to have an annual report available for all members before the day.

Regards,

Deanne S.

President 2017-18

Farmers are key to a better future - Anika Molesworth - As a farmer, Anika Molesworth understands many of the challenges facing farmers – who are all trying to create more with less. Increasing populations, ecosystem degradation and climate change ask more of farmers than ever before, which is why farmers need our support – to help them make the necessary changes, to do what they do best.

Anika splits her life between her family’s arid outback sheep station in Far Western NSW, her PhD crop trials in Griffith, and lush green rice paddies in Southeast Asia working as a researcher in international agricultural development.

She was awarded the 2015 Young Farmer of the Year, 2017 NSW Finalist for Young Australian of the Year, and most recently the NSW Young Achiever Award for Environment and Sustainability. Anika is a passionate advocate for sustainable farming, environmental conservation and climate change action. She helped founding Farmers for Climate Action, and connects land managers to researchers through her platform Climate Wise Agriculture in order to build resilience into farming communities. She is also keenly interested in the conservation of natural and cultural heritage in farming communities and manages the International National Trusts Organisation’s Sustainable Farms program.
