Stittsville Rotary met on Wednesday June 19th at Fratelli’s to have dinner and celebrate the close of a very successful year
Departing President Frans Vandendries said it this way: “We have a great club with members who are very active in many projects that give back to the community.” The club focussed on local service activities such as providing bursaries for high school students, Dictionaries4Life for Grade 3 students and relief for Ottawa flood victims. Members stocked shelves at the Food Bank and sang Christmas carols with seniors at the Villa. Stittsville Rotary also participated in international projects such as working with Rotary Club of Cornwall to send used medical equipment to Ghana and assisting with the Guatemala Stove Project of the Rotary Club of Ottawa-Bytown.
Charles Mossman is looking forward to his new role of President of the club in 2019-2020 when the new theme is Rotary Connects the World. He thanked the members for their commitment in the past year and stated that “In the new year, the club will be building on our successes and also initiating a few new activities such as the Spaghetti Festival scheduled for the fall in partnership with École secondaire catholique Paul-Desmarais and the Canadian Culinary Federation”.
President-Elect Dave Rooke will continue to be active in such club fundraisers as Trivia Night, International Film Series and Running on Empties (part of the Caring and Sharing campaign for the needy at Christmas).
