The Sew & Sew program equips remote indigenous community schools with quality sewing machines and supplies for hands-on sewing labs.

This young lady goes to Igloolik High School in Nunavut. She designed and crafted her beautiful parka, mitts and hat using the Sew & Sew program’s resources and materials. Even the fur came from the fur coats that were collected by Rotarians and sent to the community. Our efforts at work!!!!!
Sew & Sew is a program designed for school students in remote indigenous communities in the far north. Trained instructors assist students in a hands-on sewing lab in acquiring life skills and making such traditional projects as the coat in the photo.
Colleen Gray, an Indigenous artist (Art for Aid) and Josée Lusignan, founder of Soaring Circle, created the program and expanded it to schools in Labrador, Nunavut and area, and in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, with the assistance of major partners such as Janome that supplies the sewing machines and Baffinland Iron Mines that helps with transportation costs. Stittsville Rotary has also been a long-time partner in this effort, gathering and transporting sewing materials to the communities. www.stittsvillerotary.com
