Amanda Cooke-Simpson introduced Christiane Millet-Alexis who gave a very interesting talk about the Black Canadian Scholarship Fund.  This scholarship fund was started in 1996 by Christiane’s husband Dr. Horace Alexis in order to encourage and help young black Canadian students from the Ottawa area to undertake university studies in spite of the traditional financial hurdles.  She also gave us some interesting history about Black composers and African alphabets from pre-colonial times.  Lynda Brooks thanked Christiane.
