Rotary District 7040 recognized the Stittsville club’s focus on the environment.
Stittsville Rotarians are committed to conserving and protecting natural resources and they are tackling environmental issues they way they always do: coming up with hands-on projects that focus on the issue. Their efforts were recognized recently when the club was awarded the Bronze Enviroclub Award for 2023-2024 at the recent District 7040 Conference.
With the Environmental Work Group taking the lead, the club engaged in a variety of activities during the year. Following a presentation and a subsequent tour of the Fletcher Wildlife Gardens at the Central Experimental Farm, members created a pollinator garden at the WJ Bell Rotary Peace Park. The club joined the city-wide Clean Up the Capital campaign to “clean-up” the same park and surrounding area, including Poole Creek. Members attended a presentation by the Ottawa Riverkeeper, and subsequently voted for a financial contribution to the outstanding work of her team. A guest speaker representing the Friends of Stittsville Wetlands was also a popular choice which led to discussions at club meetings. A combined event with this group is being planned for the fall.
