Dear All

It has been an incredible journey as President of this club during the last year.
 
During the year we have continued to be there supporting our local community through the Art Show, Eatup, Defying the Drift, the Science and Engineering Challenge, RYLA, supporting school fundraising events and a lot of work with the Community Care Centre.
 
Beyond our local community we have supported Blazeaid’s work in bushfire affected areas and sponsored a dog under the Story Dogs program.
 
Internationally we have done a lot. Our book exchange program has helped us support RAM, painting of the medical clinic in Vanuatu, supporting the Sidinda Health Clinic and schools in Zimbabwe. Several times we have packed containers of medical equipment, educational supplies, playground equipment, furniture and clothing.
 
To our members — your energy, your generosity, and your willingness to show up, rain or shine, has made all the difference. You are the soul of this club, and it’s been my absolute pleasure to serve alongside each of you.
 
To our incoming President, Jill — I know you will bring your own unique leadership and vision to this role.

All Change!

What a fabulous evening, getting together to celebrate fun, friendship and the achievements of the past year.
President Kelvin ended the year with a bang! - inducting three new members into the Alfredton fold (more on that later) and recognising the over-and-above efforts  of three fantastic Alfies - Kay, Ewen and Michelle.
Congratulations Kelvin on a very successful and enjoyable year.
It was great to have Bec, President of Maryborough Rotary with us, as well as some of our family and friends.
Kelvin handed the reins to Jill, our inaugural President, who is back to take the lead for 25-26. Best wishes to Jill and the team for an exciting year ahead.

Three New Alfies!

We are thrilled to welcome Bett, Heather & Cheryl  into Alfredton Rotary.

Heather has joined us as her first experience of Rotary, with an extensive resume and experience in the field of finance.
 
It was a welcome back for Cheryl and Bett, as Cheryl has previously been a member of our parent club, Wendouree, and Bett has been a valued Alfie in the past.
 
Cheryl has comprehensive experience in compliance and governance, as well as boundless enthusiasm and great sense of fun.
 
Bett's hospitality and management experience (not to mention her sewing skills) are well known to us and it is lovely to have her back in the fold.
 
How wonderful to have their experience and enthusiasm added to our team.

The Science & Engineering Challenge is Back - and we need your support!

This year, members from all six Rotary Clubs in Ballarat will be volunteering at the Science and Engineering Challenge at Fed Uni on Tuesday 29 July.
This great event provides a day for Year 10 students to get hands-on with STEM challenges.
In addition, the State Final will be held at Ballarat High School on September 3rd.
Rod and the rest of the SEC committee have been working hard to organise both events and obtaining sponsors.
Volunteers are needed for both events, 8.30am - 3.30pm. Plus for set up on the previous afternoons.
A volunteer sign-on list will be created soon
 
As in previous years, an interest/funds-raising dinner will be held the night before the Challenge Day.
As this falls on a Monday night, it will be replacing our normal meeting, so the committee would love to see a big turn out from our members, friends and family.

Acciona Community Support

We were very pleased to be successful candidates for an Acciona Energia Waubra Wind Farm Small Grant. This will allow us to purchase plants for several local Primary Schools, thus enhancing the environment of our local area and increasing environmental awareness among students and families.

A Life-Changing Experience

We recently had a visit from Mikala & Mia to chat about their experiences at the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA).
Mikala and Mia work together in the music/performance field and were encouraged to attend RYLA by their employer who had themselves attended the program as a younger person.
Both had extremely positive reactions to their time at RYLA, highly value the opportunity to attend and were very thankful to the members of Alfredton Rotary for sponsoring them.
We really enjoyed chatting to two such articulate and interesting young people.
 

Winter Woolies from KOGO

We recently received two large boxes of beanies and scarves from Knit One Give One (KOGO) to distribute in our community.
KOGO is an amazing organisation consisting of volunteers who knit and crochet items to be given away.
In the past we have distributed warm hats, scarves, gloves, baby items and blankets to organisations such as the Salvos, Anglicare and United.
This year they were delivered to the Primary Schools in our local area who were very thankful to pass on some extra warmth to their families.
A huge thank you to every creative person who supports the vision of KOGO to spread the warmth and the love in the community
Please support these amazing organisations who have all assisted us in some way. Without them, our reach would be smaller and projects less impactful..
