Dear All

It has been a month of mixed emotions for our members.

We recently lost our member and long standing Rotarian Ken Broadbent who passed away. While I never met Ken I have only ever heard people talk about his leadership, kindness and big heart. What a truly wonderful man who will be greatly missed. Sincere condolences to Jill and family.

This month we also recommenced the Art Show over the Begonia Festival. This kind of large community event can only happen with the hard work and commitment of many people. It bought everyone involved much pride and joy. With special thanks to members Jill, Michelle and Malcolm for the planning, organising and vision. And also thank you to all our members and friends who assisted before and during the event. Many artists displayed their works and many pieces were sold. Hopefully, we will be back with the event again next year.

Finally, it was my pleasure recently to induct Stephen Andrew into our club. We are thrilled to have Stephen with us and I hope his Rotary journey will far exceed his expectations.

Until next time!

PDG Ken Broadbent OAM

It is deep thanks and love that we remember the life of our Founding Mentor Member, Ken, who passed away recently at the age of 99.

Ken was instrumental in the founding of our club as a Satellite Club and shared his advice, vision and extensive Rotary knowledge with us as we began to create a new way of doing Rotary.

Ken and Margaret shared a strong bond and together were committed to using their lives to make a difference in the lives of others, whether through their love of family or passionate support of Rotary and its ideals.

Our deep sympathy is with Jill and Andrew and all of the family

Ken's memorial service will be held on 28 March 11am, at Peter Tobin Funerals 1251 Doveton St Nth, Invermay Park VIC 3350

Late last month we welcomed Stephen Andrew to the Alfredton gang.
Stephen has already been involved in various Alfie projects including BBQing and volunteering throughout the Art Show.
Welcome aboard Stephen!

Art Show Opening Night

A balmy evening beside Lake Wendouree was the perfect setting for our Art Show to be officially opened.

Congratulations to Michelle and Jill who were the inspiration and driving forces behind getting the event up and running.

Thank you to all who came to celebrate the opening, to all of the amazing artists who generously shared their work with us, to APEX members who provided the display boards (and the muscle to put them up) and to the other Rotary members and community members who assisted in a myriad of ways.

Yes, the Art Show is Back!

We brought back the previously long-running and well-loved Art Show for the Begonia Festival weekend.
It was a lot of work to organise at short notice; contacting artists, arranging the venue and all the permissions, not to mention lifting and shifting the heavy display frames, but with a lot of teamwork and some very welcome assistance from APEX, other Rotarians and our friends and family it became a reality.

It was so lovely hear the pleasure and gratitude from artists and public alike, that we had brought it back.

Onwards to bigger and better next year!

Lyndon Delivers!

We are really excited that Eat Up founder, Lyndon Galea is now delivering fresh fruit, yoghurt and baked beans to our local schools.
Eatup have received extra sponsorship from Chobani, SPC and Heinz that enables them to now extend fresh food deliveries to regional areas.

Lyndon will be driving to Ballarat, delivering to half of our schools each trip, so each school will get fresh food once a month.

What a great addition to the cheese sandwiches that we are already supplying.

Huge thanks to Lyndon, the Eatup team and generous sponsors that make the whole thing 'just work!

Container for Vanuatu

It was all hands on deck as we replaced our meeting with a container packing session!
Plenty of Alfies arrived to assemble the equipment and materials that had been collected.
Thanks also to Jim, Gary and Nick from other Rotary clubs who did a power of work in earlier days and weeks to assist Jill in collecting and organising the items.
More items are needed - especially tables and chairs for schools and kindergartens, so the packing will continue.

Social Racquetball

We spent a very warm( and consequently sweaty) evening at the Ballarat Squash & Racquetball Centre learning the intricacies of the game and trying it out.
We even had a couple of pool sharks testing out their skills. :)
Thanks to Lee-Anne for organising this social night - especially the yummy pizzas!

April 19 Bunnings DTC BBQ

We currently have 20 members and friends going to Vanuatu to paint an out-patients room at the hospital and attending a local Rotary meeting. (some are just going for the social side of the trip!)

Deb's Swimming for Breast Cancer Research

Alfie Deb is aiming to swim 15km during March in order to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research. While that's not an official Rotary project, it's a cause very close to many of our hearts.

Thank you to those who have already shown your support.
Donations can me made here.
Please support these amazing organisations who have all assisted us in some way. Without them, our reach would be smaller and projects less impactful..
