Dear All

As the President of a Rotary Club, people often ask me ‘What does Rotary do?’ and ‘How is it relevant in today’s world?’.
 
In answering this I refer to the following..
 
Rotary tackles global issues such as polio eradication, peace resolution, providing clean water, sanitation and community economic development in countries around the world.
 
Rotary has led the fight against Polio, reducing polio cases by over 99.9% since 1988 providing funds, leadership and volunteers.
 
We build peace through peace building and conflict resolution by grassroots projects worldwide as well as providing young people the opportunity to study in a different country as Rotary Youth Exchange students or Rotary Peace Scholars.
 
Rotary builds local partnerships and helps to deliver local solutions to local needs such as mental health, youth programs, food security and disaster recovery.
 
And Rotary focuses on the environment by making the environment a key area of focus.
 
The members of our club (Alfredton) show everyday how relevant Rotary is in all that we do.

Vanuatu Trip

Well what can we say?
 
We came, we met people, we painted, we explored, we relaxed!
 
Thank you to the friends and family who accompanied our intrepid Rotarians who ventured to Vanuatu to paint the Paediatric Outpatients Clinic at the Port Vila General Hospital.
Thank you to the Ni-Vanuatu and local Rotary members who assisted us.
And thank you to the generous sponsors who provided paint and painting equipment - Express Paint Rollers and Dulux.

President Elect Leadership Development Seminar & District Assembly

The District Assembly is the major leadership training event in District 9780 for 2025.  In 2025 it will again be held in conjunction with President Elect training which provides incoming Presidents for Rotary year 2025/26 the opportunity to set their goals, refine their leadership team, develop networks and to meet the D9780 Leadership Team.

The PELDS session will be held on Saturday, 24th May 2025 commencing at 10am.

The 2025 District Assembly will be held on Sunday, 25th May 2025, commencing at 10.00am and concluding at around 4:00 pm.

Morning tea and lunch will be provided on both days.

An informal dinner at Thai Basil Restaurant is being organised for for the evening of Saturday, 24th May. There is no registration fee for the dinner (order individually from the menu) but attendees are asked to register to get an idea of numbers.

Ticket prices are:
District Assembly: $60   
PELDS $60 (Reimbursed by the club)

Trivia fun supporting our local community

Alfredton Primary trivia night is just around the corner and they need all interested people to secure tickets TODAY before bookings close!
Without sufficient bookings, they may need to postpone this event 😭which would delay their fundraising efforts. If you've been thinking about joining in for a night of fun and laughs, please book your spot today!
Teams of four or more people are encouraged, but individual bookings are also welcome. Solo participants will be seated with fellow parents/staff who share your enthusiasm.
Professionally run by Kaze Entertainment and hosted by Ross Watson, this fun-filled evening promises to be memorable while supporting a great cause. All proceeds will directly fund new playgrounds at Alfredton Primary School. 🛝

Democracy Sausages at Alfredton Primary

A successful Election Day was held by our dynamic club at Alfredton P.S. on May 3 2025.
We sold 520 sausages and people were very pleased to see us and enjoy a democracy sausage. Numbers were probably down compared to other election days as many people pre-polled. We are developing a close relationship with Alfredton P.S. which is valued by both organisations. Again, thanks to all involved; Denise, Garry, David R, Bett, Steve, Ewen, Stuart, Olivia, Rochelle, Julie and BBQ Captain Robyn

Defying the Drift Applications are now open

The DtD residential program will be held at Longerenong, 22-24 Sept.

Community Care Centre Garage Sale

Alfies combined with Rotarians from other Ballarat clubs combined to run a garage sale for the Community Care Centre Ballarat (CCCB), at the end of April..
Sometimes items that are donated to the CCCB are not the type of items that are not included in the household items that are available for people to collect or are excess to CCCB needs.
These items, including general bric-a-brac, excess glassware and other household items along with items donated specifically for the sale, were sold at a garage sale that netted over $1,200 to support the CCCB operating costs.
The CCCB is always looking for community members to volunteer to collect, sort, clean and organise items.
The Centre is open to volunteers Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am. 
 
Please support these amazing organisations who have all assisted us in some way. Without them, our reach would be smaller and projects less impactful..
