Altona City Rotary eBulletin: 16  Dec 2019

From the President

Last nights Christmas dinner was our last meeting for 2019.

I want to thank Charlie H. for is work as MC ( we won’t talk about a couple of bloopers) all in all he did a great job and kept thing moving along.

The quiz was as popular as ever and as usual caused lots of laughs as we tried to work out the answers. There were a few members that resorted to Google when looking for the answers, not is the general spirit of the quiz.

Our next meeting is a social dinner in the Bistro at Kooringal 6.00 for 6.30 Monday 13th Jan 2020.

On the 20th Jan 2020 we will run our annual Cluster BBQ at Kooringal 6.00 for 6.30. This is a good function to bring partners to or to introduce new people to rotary. All are welcome, but we need to book as we need to know how many to cater for.

There was only one announcement last night. Charlie M reported the results for the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle held on Sunday 8th Dec. it was one of our best results, we made just over $1800.00 to add to our charity account to help us fund our local community and overseas projects. Well done Charlie and team.

As a side note, the raffle at our Christmas Dinner also raised $125, so again congratulations to Charlie and the team for organizing this.

There will be another Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on Dec. 19th. It’s a Thursday. If you have never worked at one of these events , come along and see what we do and the fun we have. This may encourage you to participate in future Sausage Sizzles.

This is my last report for 2019.
Enjoy some friends and family time over the holiday break. Stay safe take care.

Hope to see you all early next year.

Yours in Rotary
Ray

Congratulations Loretta on your Community Citation

Hobsons Bay Local Area Commander - Inspector Tim O'CONNOR (Pictured) had the honour of presenting Ms Loretta CORMACK JP with a Community Citation at a recent ND2 Honours and Awards Ceremony. (Williamstown Town Hall)

Inspector O'CONNOR said, "I was privileged today to honour Ms CORMACK for her dedication to Community via an award and citation - in the presence of many."

"Ms CORMACK (Justice of the Peace) has gone above and beyond - providing a range of Community Supports, for which we are very grateful."

From all of us at Altona City Rotary Club, well done Loretta.

Back in 2006 when I first joined ShelterBox as a volunteer I never would have dreamt I’d still be involved 13 years later. As a ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) member I’ve deployed 22 times to disaster zones around the world and witnessed the strength and resilience of the human spirit in response to these extreme circumstances. As a photographer I have endeavoured to capture the lived experience of those we support and those that assist us.

Next year marks the 20th anniversary of ShelterBox. To celebrate this milestone, I have produced a coffee table-style photography book, featuring 200 pages of full colour images captured during my deployments. I'm excited to provide you with the opportunity to support our 2020 Vision Crowd-Funding Campaign

The book has arrived and is ready to mail out!

The crowd-funding campaign aims to raise $20,000 to cover costs of the first print run, ensuring that proceeds from all future sales go towards disaster relief.

We've already raised over $8,000, but we still need your help

The official book launch takes place at the end of January, but the '2020 Vision Campaign' gives you the chance to not only help fund the production, but also get your hands on an advance copy hot off the press and in time for Christmas!
