President's Notes
Hi Everyone,

Wow! What a meeting! All the guests brought an amazing buzz that filled the room. Adrian Mancini shared the heart-breaking story of his daughter’s diagnosis of RETT Syndrome - a rare, severe neurological disorder that affects mostly girls. The Reverse Rett Melbourne Gala 2018 was a fundraiser run by Adrian for research into a cure. The board will discuss how we can best assist.

Next week we have our Vocational/Membership night and we now have over 60 people booked in.

Nomination forms are available with PE Ray to serve the club next Rotary year, in preparation for the AGM in a few weeks.

Bryan sent around a contacts details list, please confirm yours are correct and let Bryan know of any changes.

Charlie M is seeking volunteers for the Children’s week BBQ on Wed 24th Oct – volunteers need a WWC.

Yours in Rotary,

P Bronnie

Guest Speaker- Adrian Mancini
L-R: Leon Mancini and Adrian Mancini (no relation).
Congratulations to Leon for arranging an excellent evening, and to Adrian for his heart felt talk about his daughter Mia. Adrian shared the heartbreak when he and his wife Chantal were advised, after genetic testing, in April 2017, that Mia was positive for RETT Syndrome. Adrian and his wife don't want to accept the RETT Syndrome for MIA, now 31/2, and are fund raising for the US-based RETT Syndrome Research Trust.
The Raffle run by Charlie Montebello raised A$615.00 which will be used to support RETT Syndrome Research, as decided by the Board of ACRC.

Future Speaker- RETT Syndrome- 11 Feb 19
Professor John Christodoulou AM, who is the Theme Director Genetics Research/Group Leader, Neurodevelopmental Genomics, at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, and the Chair in Genomic Medicine, Department of Pediatrics at the University of Melbourne, has advised that he'd be pleased to present on RETT Syndrome, and their research activities in that area, at our Rotary Club. Date booked for his talk is 11 Feb 19.

Professor Christodoulou's impressive (on-line) CV indicates that he is a former President of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (2005-2007), and served on the NHMRC Principal Committee, the Human Genetics Advisory Committee from 2009-2015. He became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) January 2010, in recognition of his contributions to genetic practice and research, particularly in the area of genetic metabolic disorders. Prior to taking up the inaugural Chair of Genomic Medicine at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and the University of Melbourne, he was the Director of the Western Sydney Genetics Program at the Children's Hospital at Westmead and the Head of the Discipline of Genetic Medicine at Sydney University until December 2015.

Professor Christodoulou is very well-credentialed to talk to us about the RETT Syndrome, and the Research being conducted in Melbourne and Australia, to give us a better understanding of possible options for supporting RETT Research based in Melbourne.

Bulletin Editor: 2019-2020

Dear Members,

The club is looking for someone to take up the role of Bulletin Editor for next year 2019/2020.

As we has seen this year that the use of Club Runner to prepare the weekly news bulletin has a good basic format which would make the task manageable .

As I try to put the clubs management team together for next year 2019/2020 l would like all members to have a good level of involvement in running our club.

It would be GREAT if this was the first year in many that we had to take a vote for some of the positions.

I am hoping that all members have the same feeling.

Please think of how you can be of serve and the contribution you have to offer to our club and community.

Yours in Rotary

Ray
