President's Notes
Hi Everyone,

This week our speaker was Peter Shepheard, who spoke about the Rotary Foundation – our charity. Peter is President of Altona and a great friend of our club, supporting many of our functions.

We also welcomed a number of Guests – John Shaw, Julian Montebello, Frank Grosso and Les king.

Altona Rotary has invited us to their meeting on the 27th –the topic is Mental Toughness and Leadership see below for more detail.

I attended the District 9800 AGM – if anyone is interested in seeing the detail send me an email and I will forward.

Our Christmas break up will be on Monday 10th December - $35 for a 3-course meal. Please confirm numbers with Frank.

Yours in Rotary,

P Bronnie
Rotary Foundation- Presentation by President Peter Shepheard
President Peter Shepheard (of Altona Rotary Club) has been in Rotary for 15 years, and is serving as President for the 4th time! He is a strong supporter of the Rotary Foundation, including being a member of the Paul Harris Society (requiring an annual donation of $US 1,000) as well has making a bequest.
Peter summarised some key aspects of the Rotary Foundation:
  • All donations are used for their intended purpose. Admin costs are covered by interest for 3 years before the funds are used.
  • The Rotary Foundation covers Rotary's 6 areas of Service, but the largest project has been "Polio Plus", which is close to eradicating Polio from the World.
  • Some of the funds raised for the Foundation can be used in Australia- eg. for helping disadvantaged year 11 & 12 students to complete their education.
Altona City RC provided Peter with a cheque for our annual contribution of US$100/member (A$2900).
