Altona City Rotary eBulletin:  23 July 2019
President's Notes
Rotarians and Friends
We wish Leon Mancini safe travels and look forward to his return.
Brian Van Noordeene’s membership has been approved and is moving forward to Induction.

We had one other guest of the club last night who may move forward to an application for membership, Martin Mittersteiner a local electrician ( better known as Hot Dog Electrical )

It was good to have a visit from one of our councillors, Sandra Wilson has been the representative of this ward for many years. Leon is doing a good job of finding prospective members .

Thanks to the members that came along to help at the Bunnings sausage sizzle last Friday. The weather was not great and the sales were slow however we managed to make $400.00 I am sure members will remember this effort was part of the plan to keep our members fees at the same level as last year. Well done Charlie and the team.

Members will recall that as a club we want to try different ways to run the club which could reduce the time some of the vital practices and management system take.

So on 23 Rd September 2019 we plan to have our board meeting as part of of normal meeting. Secretary Danny will e mail all members a copy of the Agenda and the Minutes of the previous board meeting two weeks prior to the 23 Rd Sept. This will give all members a good understanding of what the clubs plans and actions are as we move through the Rotary year.
If Members wish to add an item to the Agenda, please write to secretary Danny giving him ample time to include for that meeting.
This may turn out to be unworkable but let’s give it a try. My hope is that this approach to the board meeting will encourage all members to feel more connected and involved in the clubs activities.
I did ask for feed back or ideas as to we run this part of our meeting.
I look forward to your comments.

Have a good week, stay safe.

The next Foundation Film Club Screening will be Quentin Tarantino's 9th Film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on Sunday 18th August at 6.30pm.   Please see the flyer attached for more details and where possible please promote it to not only fellow Rotarians but friends, family and anyone you think may be interested.
 Did You Know........
The RYLA program began in Australia in 1959, when young people throughout the state of Queensland were selected to meet with Princess Alexandra, the young cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Rotarians of Brisbane, who hosted the participants, were impressed with the quality of the young leaders.
It was decided to bring youth leaders together each year for a week of social, cultural and educational activities.
The RYLA program gradually grew throughout all the Rotary districts of Australia and New Zealand.
In 1971, the RI Board of Directors adopted RYLA as an official program of Rotary International.
Here is some information about our District RYLA program
District Recognition- Public Image & Communication
District Governor Bronwyn Stephens recognised Altona City Rotary's Inaugural Teacher Awards Night with a District Recognition for "Public Image & Communications."

Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN)
Year 9 Student Dassakorn (Dass) Saton attended a weekend RYPEN camp in Mansfield and had a wonderful experience. Dass presented a recognition certificate (shown below) to President Bronnie.

Enjoying the Sun at Portarlington, on the back deck of the Bellarine Express- President Bronnie and Immediate Past President Maureen.
Thanks to Past President Jan Douglas for organising such a wonderful social outing for Altona City Rotary.
Bay Running on the Bellarine Express...
From low gear leaving Docklands at 5 knots, the Port Phillip Bay crossing at an effortless 32 knots (into a howling headwind) was exhilarating for those who wanted some sea air... Melbourne is just visible in the distance.
