President's Notes
Hi Everyone,

We heard from Jo Cairney and Megnah Pathek regarding STAREE – a large scale study on the use of Statin medication to promote healthy aging.

Thanks to Charlie M for sharing part 2 his experiences in Sri Lanka and India with us all as we waited for our meals to come out.

Our friends at Williamstown RC are celebrating the 70th Anniversary of their Charter – on Friday 24th of May- see invitation below.

Bryan is organising Bowel Scan once again and has requested members help with distribution of the brochures to letterboxes in the area.

Ray has asked for incoming board members to submit their plans for the new Rotary year for inclusion in the Plans and Objectives to be submitted to District.

Marg shared the heart-breaking tale of some customers who’d been victim to a scam.

Charlie and Kay completed the Memory Walk in honour of his Brother who is suffering from dementia raising $2.5K and thanked members for their donations.

Our club Change Over is Friday 14th of June – more details to follow shortly.

The Board meeting with be on the 13th May for all incoming and outgoing board members. – please forward an agenda items or reports to Bryan.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums.

Preventive Medicine- an Introduction to Healthy Aging
Joanne Cairney and Meghna Pathak from Monash Uni (based at the Alfred).
Joanne, an Occupational Therapist, joined the School of Public Health & Preventive Medicine at Monash University, which is conducting large scale population studies regarding healthy aging. She discussed the "Staree" (Statins in Reducing Events in the Elderly) research program, which is being funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), and involves several universities coordinated by Monash Uni.
You can participate in this study if you are aged 70 years or over, in good health and have no prior history of heart disease or stroke, or diabetes.
Your contribution to research into prolonging a healthy life and preventing cardiovascular disease and dementia is greatly appreciated.
For more information, call 1800 770 664 or email staree@monash.edu.

The Rotary Foundation- Centurion Program
The District 9800 Chair of the Centurion Program has written to Ray seeking our support for the Rotary Foundation:
"Dear Ray,

As the end of the Rotary year draws near, please help us remind your members to support The Rotary Foundation.

As Foundation Chair, this will be a great time to thank members who have contributed and encourage others to donate soon to avoid the June rush.  Only A$100 qualifies as a Centurion in our District so please encourage your members to support us.

For your convenience, I have also attached a copy of the contribution form and Ways To Give (other ways to give) that you can forward to your members directly.

Thank you for your continued support.  Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Gabe

ACRC Sets Sail... Courtesy of Jan Douglas
On Sunday, 28 April, 24 members, partners and friends gathered at Port Phillip Ferries dock to board the magnificent "Bellarine Express" to Portarlington for lunch at the Portarlington Golf Club.
The lovely Genna drove us to the Golf Club to enjoy a delicious lunch- just ask connoisseur Charlie M. Genna then transported those interested in the local shops, while others continued to enjoy the hospitality and Barry H's jokes and stories. "Onya Bazz." Then another smooth return trip to Docklands. Unanimous vote- a delightful day- and we need more regular "Social Days!"
