Altona City Rotary Learns About Women in the Middle East
Vicki Mustafa is currently a Christian Pastor who spent her first 21 years living in the Middle East as a Muslim. She was brought up according to Islamic culture, but found Christianity during a Uni tour to Israel, and became a Christian Missionary in the Middle East for 21 years. Vicky is now an advocate for people, including Muslims.
Vicky explained some aspects for Muslim women in the Middle East:
  • They are controlled or restricted;
  • Islam means "submission" (linked to submission to Allah) and Islam is central to their life.
  • The Koran is written in Classical Arabic, and most Muslims cant read it. They have to rely on the Imam of their local mosque to explain it.
  • Obedience of women to men is important to get to Paradise
  • Women have to be covered up.
  • For a woman, divorce = loss of children.
Vicky's talk, based on her personal experiences, generated a lot of interest in helping us to better understand the Muslim culture.
