President's Notes
Hi Everyone,
Our guest speaker this week was Vicki Mustafa who spoke about Muslim women in the Middle East. Raised a Muslim she found Christianity and became a missionary in the Middle East.
Barry D shared a flyer highlighting info regarding the 6 beds we sponsored at DIK
The CBA has $500 to donate to a local charity (there are some requirements such is having an ABN)– if anyone has any suggestions, contact Marg.
Our cruise is on the 28th of April – meet at 10:30 at the Docklands – there is a train scheduled to leave Westona at 9:40 (Altona at 9:42 and Seaholme at 9:44 am)
Date for our Changeover is 14th of June. More details to follow.
AG Paul Rake sent details of a fundraiser for Cambodia – I’ll send details to Bryan for Bulletin.
There’s also a volunteer opportunity for marshalling in the Altona leg of Around the Bay in a day – a cycling event.
No meeting on Monday 22 April.

Yours in Rotary,

P Bronnie

Altona City Rotary Learns About Women in the Middle East
Vicki Mustafa is currently a Christian Pastor who spent her first 21 years living in the Middle East as a Muslim. She was brought up according to Islamic culture, but found Christianity during a Uni tour to Israel, and became a Christian Missionary in the Middle East for 21 years. Vicky is now an advocate for people, including Muslims.
Vicky explained some aspects for Muslim women in the Middle East:
  • They are controlled or restricted;
  • Islam means "submission" (linked to submission to Allah) and Islam is central to their life.
  • The Koran is written in Classical Arabic, and most Muslims cant read it. They have to rely on the Imam of their local mosque to explain it.
  • Obedience of women to men is important to get to Paradise
  • Women have to be covered up.
  • For a woman, divorce = loss of children.
Vicky's talk, based on her personal experiences, generated a lot of interest in helping us to better understand the Muslim culture.
