Altona City Rotary eBulletin:  30 July 2019
President's Notes
Rotarians and Friends

Our speaker on Monday night was Russell Cox a local lawyer.
He spoke to us about the Power of Attorney documents that we may need to know about as we get older. The news papers and popular magazines have lead us to believe they are simple and straight forward documents.

They are important documents which many of us may need to become familiar with in the future but there appears to be lots of pitfalls and barriers that can make working with these documents difficult. To ensure the Power of Attorney is workable is best not to use the ( do it yourself ) documents you can buy at the news agencies.

I have check the date that the Vietnamese Assoc. Of Hobson’s Bay want Rotary to teach them about Bike Safety , it’s the 13th October at 2.00/ 4.00 pm at the Louis Joel Art Centre on Queen St Altona

I see this as a community service project which will give us some exposure to the Vietnamese people in the area. My hope is that it will help these people to enjoy safe bike riding in our local area.

Bike safety is something we should all be taking an interest in. We see on the nightly news most weeks of a cyclist being injured.

Even members that don’t ride bikes could come along to show Rotary’s
Support for bike safety.

Have a good week.
See you all next Monday

Yours in Rotary

Ray

It’s on its way.

The hospital bed we sponsored at Rotary Donations In Lind will be loaded this week and will join 59 others on their way to Chile.   That will make 460+ shipped to the Rotary Bed Bank in Chile and 700 families will benefit this year.   There is little external palliative care  beds in the country and this service helps to provide better care for loved ones in their last few months.
The next Foundation Film Club Screening will be Quentin Tarantino's 9th Film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on Sunday 18th August at 6.30pm.   Please see the flyer attached for more details and where possible please promote it to not only fellow Rotarians but friends, family and anyone you think may be interested.
News
 Did You Know........
The RYLA program began in Australia in 1959, when young people throughout the state of Queensland were selected to meet with Princess Alexandra, the young cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Rotarians of Brisbane, who hosted the participants, were impressed with the quality of the young leaders.
It was decided to bring youth leaders together each year for a week of social, cultural and educational activities.
The RYLA program gradually grew throughout all the Rotary districts of Australia and New Zealand.
In 1971, the RI Board of Directors adopted RYLA as an official program of Rotary International.

Here is some information about our District RYLA program
