The CMIRC Children’s Water Safety Project continues to prepare for two pilot projects.   CMIRC has now raised sufficient funds to support  Kru Payu and his swim instructional staff to begin exploring a project with children from a central city school to be conducted at the Bronco Kids Pool, and another project at Ban Pao Witiyakhan School with the assistance of the Tin Thai Ngam Rotary Club and the use of Kru Payu’s portable swimming pool.
A Thai language brochure has been designed and will soon go to the printers.  These brochures will be used in the schools to encourage parents to enroll their children in Kru Payu’s drowning prevention program. The pilot program should be underway in the central city in the month of September.  We anticipate 80 children between the ages of 8 and 10 from families with few resources will be served during this initial stage of the project.

Mae Tao Clinic

Construction of the new clinic site continues.   The move will be in stages beginning in October or November.  We anticipate the grand opening will be in
December or January.

The Sunrise Estes Park Rotary Club is preparing a global grant to allow the completion of the waste water management system.  CMIRC is assisting.

We are organizing a trip to visit Mae Tao Clinic, departing Chiang Mai on Wednesday 16 September.  We will visit Mae Tao Clinic and some of their ancillary projects such as the Child Development Center on Thursday and Friday.  We will return to Chiang Mai on Saturday 19 September.  Depending on the number of people who want to go, we will likely hire a van.

For details please contact Jerry Nelson:  secretary@cmirotary.org  or 089-556-4293

CMIRC will continue to work with the Rotary Club of Tin Thai Ngmam in support of their Rotary Community Project at the Ban Pao Wittatakarn School.  Children will receive eye examination in November and December.   We will also be conducting an eye examination clinic for the Big Brother’s foundation in Chiang Mai in October.
The club is preparing for our 2nd annual children’s winter clothing appeal.  Collection boxes will be placed about Chiang Mai, clothing collected, sorted and delivered to needy hill tribe children.   Perhaps you can help.  Do you plan on visiting Chiang Mai from abroad in the next few months?   Simply go to your local thrift store such as Salvation Army or Good will.  Buy some warm clothing for children and bring the clothing along.  Not only will you be helping needy children, you will also have extra room in your luggage for gifts and souvenirs you will want to take home.  For details contact David Hardcastle:  gmorning.david@gmail.com
