Karinya House - Marlie-Louise Corkhill Marie-Louise Corkhill – Biographical Notes. Marie-Louise is a degree qualified Social Worker and has been the Executive Director at Karinya House since it opened in 1997. Since that time, Marie-Louise has developed and expanded the service, its staff and service delivery. In addition, through the development of effective partnerships with Government, Corporates and members of the regional community, Marie-Louise has negotiated an expanding funding base, to ensure continuity of the service and continuing enhancement of service delivery, from a premise of best practice within the Sector. Marie-Louise’s vision and sense of purpose were instrumental to the Association achieving its long held vision to establish a purpose built facility for the Karinya House service to call Home. This vision came to fruition in August 2016. Marie-Louise was named the ACT Woman of the Year in 2017. Prior to her work at Karinya House, Marie-Louise worked within the community sector in Western Sydney for almost 20 years and has extensive professional experience. Marie-Louise is married to Sam Longley, and she has an extensive family, from a regional farming background. Her commitment to family is easily measured by an assessment of her tireless commitment to the clients, staff and volunteers of Karinya House. Executive Summary – Rotary Canberra Address Monday, 17 September 2018 Marie-Louise Corkhill, Executive Director of Karinya House for Mothers and Babies, presents an overview of the work of Karinya House in the Canberra Region. The presentation will include a short 5 minute video about Karinya House over the past 20 years, from its beginnings, with Marie-Louise as the first employee, to today. Karinya House today is located in a purpose built community housing complex. The complex was funded and built by the ACT Government specifically to suit the services provided by Karinya House to support vulnerable and at risk pregnant and early parenting women from the local community of the Canberra Region. Karinya House is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC), and is a community based Incorporated Association, with annual operating costs of around $1.8m, supporting over 200 women (and their babies, children, and in some instances, partners) each year. Karinya House raises almost 50% of its annual operating revenues from the Community – through donations, charitable grants, and fundraising ventures, with the remaining 50% of funding coming from the ACT Government. It is a true collaboration between individuals, community groups, corporate citizens and government, in support of some of the most vulnerable in our local community. |
