January is Vocational Service Month

The founder of Rotary, Paul Harris said, “Of all the hundred and one ways in which men can make themselves useful to society, undoubtedly the most available and often the most effective are within the spheres of their own occupations.”  If you do not know, that is vocational service.  Finding ways to help your fellow man through your chosen profession.

Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the most inspirational Americans of the 20th century, was a simple, black preacher from the deep south who made an indelible mark on our society and the world.  This week, we recall his birthday as a chance to honor him as a man but more importantly as a symbol of the movement he promoted.  As with any holiday that comes around now, it is plastered all over Facebook.  Most of what is posted is useless information that we all just scroll past with nary a second glance.  But one caught my eye this week:  “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”  A short quote that carries much weight.

If asked that question, know that you can answer humbly, “I am a Rotarian.”  I dare say that response carries just as much weight as the question.  Because as a Rotarian, you spend your days finding ways to do for others.  That is Service Above Self.

We Want to Hear About You!
We are looking for club members to do a classification talk.

What is that you ask?

A classification talk is your chance to tell members about yourself and your business.  It shouldn't be a big chore because you should already know all the answers :) How you share information about your profession is up to you!  Relax and enjoy your opportunity to educate your fellow Rotarians about who you are and your vocation.

If you are interested in speaking, contact Abby (abby@mtagllc.com) to schedule a time in our calendar.

Quote of the Day

“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve.”

~ Martin Luther King Jr.
