President's Message: To Read or Not to Read...
I have been reading a lot lately.  I do not read much “light” material.  Much of what I read is pretty deep stuff.
While I was on a leisurely vacation recently, I finished reading The Illegal Gardener (a story about an illegal Pakistani man living in Greece trying to better his life; this one was recommended to me by Jeff), read in a day The Tattooist of Auschwitz (a story about the man who spent 3 years as a prisoner in Auschwitz and was responsible for tattooing those interred in the camp; spoiler alert: he fell in love with another prisoner, and they lived happily ever after), and started The Last Shot (about the Confederate ship Shenandoah which was the last vestige of the Confederacy to surrender after it circumnavigated the globe only to find out the war was over).  I am also recently finished a book about the investigation and capture of the Wichita serial killer, BTK, and started another about John Wayne Gacy.
I find that I can very easily get lost in a book.  It is an escape that goes beyond anything else I know.  I simply cannot imagine my life without books.
And yet...there are many people who might disagree.  Whether they find books boring or simply too much of a time commitment in their hectic lives, they cannot imagine finding time to sit down to read a book.  Even then, it is a conscious choice.
To read or not to read.
If you are like me, it is not hard choice.  I read, sometimes sparingly and sometimes voraciously, but always happily.  So what have you read recently?  Feel free to share.
Last Week's Meeting: New Wave Swim Club
Last week we had the pleasure of presenting the New Wave Swim Club with a $500 check to sponsor their annual pool fees. It's such a pleasure to have them come each year and tell us all about their swim meets and what athletes they have become. We sponsor or donate to many different organizations but few times to we get to see in person the good deeds that we have done. It was quite heartwarming when you see the athletes talk so proudly about the medals they have won. If you would like to see updates on their club, follow them on Facebook at
