Bill Chemerka came in this past week to discuss November 20, 1789: the day New Jersey became the first US state to ratify the Bill of Rights.

Bill has been trying for years to give us a proper historical nickname, i.e. Connecticut - The Constitution State. New Jersey actually doesn't have a historical nickname and Bill believes (along with all of his students in the past), that it should be the "Bill of Rights" state. Since 2002, Bill has been petitioning to State Legislatures to add this nickname which would cost virtually nothing to add. So far, he hasn't had much luck but that does not stop him from promoting the topic when he can which is why he writes a letter to the local newspapers every year on November 20th urging people to take notice.
