Last week a couple of members attended the Barnegat Township Meeting to officially present the Barnegat Police Department with the $3000 of grant money to purchase Narcan doses for all the police officers to have on hand while they are on duty.

Ocean County has consistently been one of the areas of the state hardest hit by the scourge of opioid addiction and overdose deaths. In 2016, the county had the second-largest raw total and rate of overdose deaths of any county in the state. With the introduction of Narcan, the number of overdoses actually dropped this year but we still have a lot of work to do as a county to fight this issue.

We hope that this contribution will help our local law enforcement combat this major problem we have. We would also like to congratulate police officers that were newly inducted as well the two officers who promoted to Sargeant. Congratulations!
