District Grant at Work -- Rotary Plaza in memory of George Lyons
Carmen Hansen gave us an update from the Grants Committee and the project designated as the Rotary Plaza.  This project is using funds donated in memory of George Lyons, a Rushmore Rotarian, and supplemented by a District Grant, and in-kind contributions by several project partners to create an outdoor space at Rapid City High School.  The project includes 5 benches, a bike rack and a skateboard rack.  The committee has worked with RCHS staff and students, and local project partners Lind Exco (Doug Lind, Tanner Hoffman), KLJ (Dana Foreman), WDT (Ann Bolman, Michael Prugh) to design a sustainable space for students and staff to enjoy.  WDT will be building the bike and skateboard racks, and Lind Exco will be doing the site work.  Please contact Carmen Hansen at 484-6056 or carmenhansen@rushmore.com  if you or your company would like to contribute to this great project.  Construction expected Summer 2020.

RCHS Student of Distinction Pizza Party
Rotarians and Rapid City High School staff honored  students of Distrinction nominees for this quarter with a pizza party.  Thank you to several members who helped them celebrate.

Community Action Committee February Pencil Drive

The Pencil Drive was a success.  Thank you for your contributions.  The newly formed Community Action Committee selected this small project as a supplement to the club’s larger ongoing projects that gives the club members opportunities to do good, while interacting with fellow Rotarians and serving the community in special ways.Pencils were delivered to local schools on February 18 and February 23.     Pictured with some of the committee members are:  Robbinsdale Elementary – Bethany Herrboldt Keeny – Principal and Assistant Principal Forrest Paris, South Middle School – Darren Schmidt / Principal, and South Park Elementary – Brad Jungwirth - Principal.  West Middle School and South Canyon Elementary School staff.  Stay tuned for upcoming projects from this committee.

HOSTS NEEDED FOR ROTARY FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGES

If you've never been a host for a Rotary Friendship Exchange, ask someone about their experience.  It's a rewarding time, learning about their Rotary Club's mission, culture and country.  RFE's have not been cancelled at this time, but we will keep you updated!

SWEDEN -- We are looking for 2-3 additional hosts for the Swedish RFE team May 26 -28, 2020.  You will need to provide them accommodation in your home for 3 nights, breakfasts, and some transportation.  The team will tour the Black Hills and Rapid City area and meet with our Club for a potluck dinner. Please let Mary Kenner (605-431-5610, mkenner56@gmail.com) if you are interested.  Let's show them Black Hills hospitality.  We will meet and review tentative schedules as time gets closer.  Thank you in advance for your consideration.  District 5610 RFE team will visit Sweden the end of August for 9 days.

DENMARK - The Denmark RFE Team will come here September 8 to 19, 2020. They have a team of 13 and will be coming to each of you and your clubs to be hosted.  You will have our guests for 1 to 3 nights.  We will be meeting in Mitchell, SD on April 18, 2020 to discuss final details. Contact Pat Sutliff at 605-593-2896 or <sutliff@midco.net> with any questions.  There is an opportunity for 2 people to visit Denmark June 15-26, 2020.
Soles4Souls - St. Thomas More Interact Project
Great job supporting this effort by St. Thomas More Interact Club by donating gently used shoes for Soles4Souls.org -- who will distribute shoes to developing countries. Thanks Sophie Meyers (Jeff's daughter) for sharing this information with our Club.
