Congratulations Mark Barry for being chosen as Rotarian of the Year for Rushmore Rotary.  Mark is a force in selling football books and plays a very large role in the Children’s Home Golf Tournament every year.  Additionally, he has brought guests and new members to the club.  He is not only kind to everyone, but goes over and above to volunteer for our Club. He sells many, many books each year - last year 270 books. He does this by speaking to everyone he knows ( I will add his large extended family) and many that he just meets in passing. Mark provides constant support on many Rotary tasks and always with a huge heart.   Mark was recognized at the recent Transition Dinner. Pictured with Janet Kahler, Club Secretary.

The football committee needs to change our delivery and collection procedures of football books in these days of the COVID pandemic.  Since we are not meeting to get most of our books given out to the membership, we are looking at a mass distribution at Mark Shreiner's business Print Market.  An email has been sent out to members to update contact information, so PLEASE UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION with The committee has a plan in place if the Monday Football Schedule is changed. The schedule for football book distribution will be sent out in the next week so watch your emails.    Thanks, in advance, for all you do to contribute to our largest club fundraiser..
COMMUNITY ACTION COMMITTEE -  The Community Action Committee needs your help preparing mask-making kits on July 9 at 4:00 at Western Dakota Tech. We will be there past 5:00, so please show up even if you work until 5:00. Please bring/wear a mask and enter through the main entrance. This is a really awesome project that has a goal of distributing 60,000 masks in the community! Thank you to Dr. Bolman for organizing this Project, and to Dana Foreman for bringing it to my attention. Each Kit contains 3 different colors of fabric, 1 spool of thread, 1 bundle of (20) knit strips to use as ties, and 1 set of pattern instructions.  Each Kit will yield 20-25 masks (depending on the seamstress 😊) ·

GOLF COMMITTEE - The BHCH Golf Tournament is scheduled for July 27, 2020.    To ensure the safety of golfers and volunteers on tournament day, we anticipate some changes to accommodate CDC social distancing guidelines.  The committee would welcome some donations of gift cards for the raffle or potential names for Hole Sponsorship.  Watch for emails regarding volunteers.
HAPPY BUCKS - During our virtual meetings, please continue to send your Happy Bucks to Shari West Twitero (see Club Runner).  Shari reported that we raised $1546 in the last quarter -- despite our virtual meetings.  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.  Happy Bucks are allocated towards eradicating polio (Polio Plus). Norm and Linda Peterson had a great visit with Nick Hall of Pedal Power to End Polio!

Rushmore Rotary was awarded a District 5610 Pop Up Covid-19 $2,000 Grant.   Our COVID grant is two-fold, supporting Rapid City downtown local businesses by purchasing gift cards to be distributed to families in need identified by United Way ,Black Hills Community Foundation, and Volunteers of America.   The Rushmore Rotary COVID Grant committee members talked to several non-profit groups and the discussions led to our focus of food insecurity.  We will purchase gift cards at:  1) Colonial House; 2) Armadillo’s; 3) Philly Ted’s and 4) Fork Real Cafe.  If you wish to add to the grant by purchasing restaurant gift cards or local bank/credit union visa cards, please leave in downtown (200 Main) BHFCU drop box with Deb Niemi’s name on the envelope or mail a check to:  Shari West Twitero (See Club Runner for address).  Watch for photos and a joint press release when distributed.  Thanks all.
