International Committee -- School of St. Jude's Fundraiser
Was a great success raising over $7,000 for the Girl's School at St. Jude's.  A special thank you to Pat Sutliff and the committee for organizing.  Pictured below is the Interact Club who helped with childcare, bussing tables and with the auction.  They were terrific and we really appreciated their help.

End Polio Now - World Polio Day October 24, 2019
The Rapid City Mayor signed a proclamation making Thursday, October 24, 2019 World Polio Day in Rapid City.  The proclamation encourages all citizens to join Rotary International in the fight to end polio.  Rotarians have contributed $1.9 billion dollars and countless volunteer hours for this cause.  Approximately 2.5 billion children in 122 countries have received protection.  Pictured are Rotarians Willis Sutliff and Gene Bilodeau with Mayor Steve Allender.

SD Mines Rotaract Club hosted a "Purple Penguin" party to raise money for the "End Polio Now" campaign. Several Rushmore Rotarians joined in the fun!
Presentation by Dr. Scott Van Dam
Our own Scott Van Dam shared his hobby of collecting agates September 24, 2019 -- Fairburn, Prairie, Hills.  His presentation in the form of a poem was very educational explaining the history, chemistry/minerology, and sheer beauty of agates.  Several members joined Scott for a trip to Railroad Buttes where we tried to spot some agates. The presentation and field trip were fabulous.

SDSMT Rotaract Club Updates
Rushmore Rotary provided support for banners to the SDSMT Rotaract Club during their campus Organizational Fair.  Meerab Joseph (President) and Noah Tousignant (Secretary) are pictured.  These two officers also received scholarships to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) in Washington DC this summer.  Heidi Bell Gease helped the Rotaract Club organize an ice cream social on September 3rd  to kick off the school year.  Heidi is looking for some Rotarians to serve as a friendship family to Rotaract students for the year.  Please contact Heidi direct at mrsmarmot@yahoo.com.
