Welcome to our Rotary Club!

Rotary International is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. Rushmore Rotary is a club composed of inspired individuals who translate their passions into relevant social causes to change lives in communities.

Membership Engagement Workshop - June 2, 2020 (ZOOM)
Meeting Notes
Rushmore Rotary Meetings will be held virtually at 7am using ZOOM until further notice.  Each member should receive an email invite.  Contact Janet Kahler for an invite: potential new members to join us!   Grab a cup of coffee and log in...hope to see you soon.
Rapid City Rushmore Rotary Club donated over $2,300 in gift cards from local businesses to the Black Hills Regional Homeless Coalition for those individuals and families affected by Covid-19.  With a Rotary grant and donations from its club members, Rushmore Rotary was able to not only support Rapid City downtown local businesses by purchasing gift cards from Philly Teds, Armadillos, Fork Real Café and Colonial House, but also help families.  Austin Brummer of Armadillos Ice Cream states, “We love seeing organizations pay it forward and we hope it does not stop there and hope everyone in our community pays it forward.”
Food insecurity was identified as a high priority, and Rotary wanted to be part of the solution.  In addition, Rushmore Rotary Club wanted to also provide economic relief to local businesses affected by the pandemic. With guidance from Black Hills Area Community Foundation and United Way of the Black Hills, Rotarians decided to partner with Volunteers of America Northern Rockies because they are coordinating the Homeless Coalition and assisting families with emergency resources and housing support.  “We are grateful for these gift cards that will be used to feed families and help brighten their day,” says Sara Hornick, VOA Coordinator of Black Hills Regional Homeless Coalition.”
Students of Distinction - RCHS
The second semester Students of Distinction have been chosen.  See the note below from Sean Binder.    They will soon be receiving their certificates and gift cards.  We hope that the awardees and their families will join us at a "real" meeting when that happens.  Hopefully this fall we will honor all the nominees at a pizza at RCHS.  We are proud to announce the following students:
Rapid City High School is excited to announce the 2019-2020 2nd Semester Rushmore Rotary Club RCHS Students of Distinction. Now more than ever, as our learners are physically (and sometimes mentally) distanced from the classrooms, the Student of Distinction recognition has truly been a bright spot. Typically leaners are surprised in class by the Rotary Award Patrol. With school buildings being closed, more creative avenues where taken. Shayla Wood, our 12th grade winner, was surprised in front of peers and staff as she lined up to be filmed for the Virtual Graduation. Our 10th and 11th grader winners, Rylei Paulson and Shasta Farmer, received a call home from the school and celebrated with family. Kaylee Wood, our 9th grade winner, was asked to attend a daily Zoom meeting with her Advisor. There she was surprised to find extra staff members in attendance ready to celebrate the good news with her.

In addition to being celebrated, these learners' pictures will be proudly displayed in the main hallway of RCHS for the coming year. They will also receive from the Rushmore Rotary Club a gift card and certificate recognizing their hard work. We look forward to personally introducing these distinct learners and their families to you in the Fall of 2020 when the learners return to school and in-person meetings resume. Thank you for all your continued support of RCHS learners.

GOLF COMMITTEE - The BHCH Golf Tournament is scheduled for July 27, 2020.    To ensure the safety of golfers and volunteers on tournament day, we anticipate some changes to accommodate CDC social distancing guidelines.  The committee would welcome some donations of gift cards for the raffle or potential names for Hole Sponsorship.  Watch for emails regarding volunteers.
HAPPY BUCKS - During our virtual meetings, please continue to send your Happy Bucks to Shari West Twitero (see Club Runner).  Shari reported that we raised $1546 in the last quarter -- despite our virtual meetings.  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.  Happy Bucks are allocated towards eradicating polio (Polio Plus). Norm and Linda Peterson had a great visit with Nick Hall of Pedal Power to End Polio!

Norm reported that we exceeded our annual goal - $16,500 (GREAT JOB EVERYONE).  Also in combination with Polio Plus (happy bucks); we raised $22,479 this year.
Congratulations Rotarian Jennifer Rollins for being chosen to 2020-21 Leadership South Dakota class. It's going to be a great year!
