Storybook Symphony plays on!

The Leadership Rapid City Class of 2015 has met the fundraising goal for our legacy project, benefiting Storybook Island. Our project will bring a new attraction to Storybook Island: Storybook Symphony. Storybook Symphony will feature a collection of colorful, life-size, outdoor, musical instruments, installed in the southeast section of the park. The interactive ensemble will allow visitors of all ages and abilities to explore the wonders of making music.
As of March 2018, Leadership Rapid City had raised $28,500 of the $30,000 goal through a GoFundMe campaign, a Character 5K Walk/Run, and a banquet, which was held on February 20, 2018. Our final push to raise the remaining $1,500 was met by Rapid City Rotary and Rapid City Rushmore Rotary clubs. Rotarians have volunteered and helped raise funds for Storybook Island and are happy to support this new feature.
The staff of Storybook Island and Leadership Rapid City, Class of 2015, are thrilled to bring Storybook Symphony to the park,. Playing music has been shown to increase social and academic skills while building self-esteem. The musical equipment is specifically designed for outdoor use and is built to last with very little maintenance. This attraction will serve Storybook Island for years to come.
Leadership Rapid City, Class of 2015, has committed to purchase and install Storybook Symphony at no cost to Storybook Island. We have set an aggressive goal to install the exhibit in the Spring of 2018.

Membership Competition continues!

Membership is a committee of everyone! To sustain our club into the future, we need to continuously recruit and retain members. Our club began a membership contest on January 2, 2018, with teams of women against men. It will run through June.

Rules:

If you bring a guest you get 1 point, if that person joins, you get 3 points.

If you bring a guest under age 50, you get 3 points, 5 points if that person joins.

(Bringing a spouse or family member to a meeting doesn't count unless they join in that 6 months.)

The women's team ass ahead at the end of March, we had a pizza party at Press Start, losers serve the winners.

At the end of June we will have a BBQ and same rules as the mid term.

Get your lists of guests ready to come to a meeting!

“What’s Happened?…What’s Next?”

Storybook Island: open now! We meet at the Birthday House for our 7 AM club meeting on June 5.
International Committee: Youth Exchange chair Cindy asks that members contact her about hosting an exchange student next year. We have an outgoing student to Italy this coming year!
Tikes and Bikes Committee: The 2017 Poker Run funds benefit the Thrive outdoor adventure gear program by Love Inc. After seven years the Tikes & Bikes committee made a decision to find another project to replace the Poker Run.  They feel the name is no longer appropriate so they are asking for input from the club.  One suggestion was Rushmore Rotary Community Project or something with Rushmore Rotary in it.  You can get back to Janet Kahler with your ideas.
Gala Committee:  The Gala at Mt. Rushmore was a huge success! Planning for the 25th begins!
Golf Tournament Committee: meeting and organizing for this year's event.
Speaker/New member info:  Extra magazines will be available for guests and for members to use for further recruiting. Also, publicity flyers and membership info is available for download from the club website, download section.
Strategic Plan & Goals: Peruse the club documents on the download section.
