Guest Speaker: Deb Snelson (VP & Safety Officer, Lions Club of Goolwa)
Birthdays: Deb Buckingham – special birthday yesterday, David McDonald birthday was on 4 August (think it may have been missed earlier), Di Keach – 8 August (think it was missed earlier)

- Goolwa Scouts thankyou for the $300 donation from the ShelterBox Day. They will put it towards travel costs to the Jamboree in Qld in Jan.2025.
- 31 Aug. Goolwa Netball Club hosting semi-finals, we will have the food trailer and bbq working that day.
- 4 August, Tamara and Jan attended Group 5 Workshop at Christies Beach. Working together to improve Rotary’s image and to attract more members, and retain current members. RI and District encouraging this promotion of joint projects by clubs.
- 9 August – RC Goolwa has been select3d to take part in the Rotary Pacific Fit for Purpose program. Agreement form has been signed and forwarded. Director PI Tamara will give details and the next available meeting.
Ed comment: As everyone who works with IT knows, sometimes the machine wins and refuses to accommodate our needs. Tonight the IT did not help our Speaker Deb Snelson. I wish to congratulate Deb on an excellent presentation under a difficult situation.
Pres. Jan introduced Deb Snelson, VP and Safety Officer of the Goolwa Lions Club. Deb was born in Adelaide and worked in the various unions in roles including project officer, industrial advisor, “Return to Work Facilitator” and Healthy Worker Advisor. Her career continued in the state government working in the Office for the Commissioner for Public Sector. Deb has qualifications in HR, Community Services and Occupational Health and Safety. She specialised in Public Sector industrial knowledge, employment law, policy advice, and was an advisor to state government departmental HR teams on complex issues relating to business outcomes, Work Cover, Work Health and Safety and legal obligations.
Tonight, Deb has agreed to provide information to our members on what the Club and members responsibilities are in this day and age. Quite different from the past.
Deb discussed many issues and these are a few points:
- .Risk Mgt Keep volunteers safe
- .Abide by Sa Govt Food Handling legislation
- .Identify and control threats. Right to be safe.
- .Volunteer orgs have a duty of care to the public.
- .Document in detail ALL accidents/incidents for Insurance company.
- . When visiting the Skewes Rd site you need two people for safety and sign in and out.
- , no gas bottles in containers of sitting in plastic milk crates.
- . Safe work SA can inspect us at any time!!!
- Things we need to do. Police Checks, Working with children cert, Food Handling Cert.
- If we do not do the right thing it can become a civil case.
- Check the SAPOL Codes of Practice.

2-Minute Spots
a) Rotarian Rosalie Edgley discussed the ROMAC Lunch advertised.
b) Meredith Harton advised books on table were available to all members.
c)Bronnie Daws advise $300 raised at the Physio Talk at Thornbury Park, She also discussed the Roster for the Netball semi final.
d) Noeline Biermann reminded members of last 2 weeks of raffle. asked for 2 offers of help on vacant shifts.
e) Di and Alan advised some vegetables and fruit available.

The raffle was drawn Lyn Crouch had winning ticket, but drew the white ball. The prize will jackpot.
