Sergeant Jim Davis opened the meeting at 7pm.
President Wendy
Wendy welcomed everyone including honorary Rotarians.
Resignations
Lyn Harris will be resigning at the end of June, but will remain a friend of Rotary.
Averil Day has resigned as Youth director due to personal commitments.
Wendy thanked Averil for all her efforts and time as Youth director.
Greg Casson will take over as Youth director.
Next Year’s District conference.
Wendy attended this year’s conference with several other Rotarians from the club and it was inspiring as always.
Next year’s conference is in Tanunda, in the Barossa Valley and Wendy encouraged members to form a group to attend. The conference is from the 1st to the 3rd of April, so it doesn’t clash with GAPE.
District Assembly
The weekend before last was the District Assembly at Prince Alfred College in Adelaide.
It was attended by Kevin, Noeline, Andy, and Wendy. It covered all aspects of Rotary. The talks are available on the District website.
Julie Irwin, president of the Victor Harbor Rotary club has organised a combined meeting on August 4th. The guest speaker is Tim Parker, who runs a company called Pioneer Tanks, who are assisting SA communities to help rural areas to build water tanks to hold water for fire situations. Fire trucks can full up from these tanks, instead of driving long distances to get water, thus fighting fires more effectively.
Club treasurer position.
Julie Payne is resigning as club treasurer, so we need someone to fill the position next year.
Roger is filling in until changeover, but cannot continue next year.
So if anyone has the skills, or is interested in the position, please let Wendy know.
2-minute spots
Karen Mitchell – Meeting survey.
Karen thanked everyone who participated in the survey.
The issues with Monday night are:
We have people who are interested in joining Rotary, but cannot come on a Monday night.
There are many public holidays on Mondays and it is not viable for the hotel to open on those nights
So we need to choose an alternative day to Monday and also an alternative venue for school holidays.
The first preference was Tuesday, but there are still 4 surveys to come in.
For the alternative venue, the first preference was the RSL club.
A venue with catering is preferable.
After much discussion, Karen asked that we agree to Noeline speaking to the Hotel management with the aim of having our meetings on alternate Tuesday nights (1st and 3rd) and that school holidays be included.
Wendy thanked everyone for their input. We will await Noeline’s negotiations.
At the District Assembly, Wendy was given a book “100 years of Rotary in Australia and Island neighbours” (Humanity in Action). If anyone would like to read it, please contact Wendy.
Can all members please be on the lookout for people who would make interesting guest speakers.
Meeting closed at 8:27
Next meeting on Tuesday June 1st at the Goolwa Hotel at 6:30 for a 7pm start
