Guest Speaker

Our guest speaker was Deb Gregory, who is the Community Director for the Alexandrina Council. Deb gave us some really useful information on Advanced Care Directives.

There were fines, happy and sad dollars. +Our speaker Deb drew Di's number in the raffle but she pulled out a white ball.

President Debbie then closed the meeting.

Carp-A-Thon

On Saturday 4th August, RC Goolwa held its inaugural Carp-A-Thon fishing competition at Bristow Smith Reserve. The day was a huge success with 197 adults and 138 under 18 registrants. The most fish caught by one person was 68, and the largest caught by an adult was 71.12 cm (28 inches) and 68.63 cm (27 inches), caught by a boy who is only nine years old.

Approximately 0.8 tonne of carp were caught which will be processed for fertilizer (out of the Murray and into gardens, a win/win for the environment).

Special thanks to our major Sponsor Intime Kitchens, and other Sponsors including Pelican Marine, BCF, Kies Hardware. Many local businesses also donated vouchers including Islander Tavern, Middleton Tavern, Fig Tree, Thai Days, Caffe de Carlo and The Garden Tandoori. Thanks also to members of the RC of Strathalbyn who came and helped us on the day.

Alex FM did an outside broadcast, and the RC Goolwa food trailer did a roaring trade and sold out of everything by 2:30 pm. Overall, a great day was had by all, and special thanks to David McDonald for his hard work for the 18 months prior to the event.
