Wendy welcomed everyone.
We received thankyou letters from ROMAC and The Rotary Foundation.
Roger - GAPE
Roger acknowledged Duncan’s part in the payment of artists, half a day’s work.
The thank you night for the sponsors went well, everybody was happy.
The profit for 2021 will be around $38.000, However, in 2020 we spent about $5000 before we started, much of which was non-recoverable. The final profit is around $33-34k, a magnificent effort.
Roger then talked about the future of GAPE.
Roger identified 4 main areas:
- Administration (Roger)
- Sponsorship
- Event management (Kevin)
- Promotion
And 3 stages:
- Prior to when we open to entries from artists
- Opening to entries from artists, processing entries, promotion, signage
- The exhibition, receival of artworks from entrants, hanging, displaying, showing.
- Releasing all the artworks, counting money.
In 2020, we got as far as the second stage, and then pulled the plug, due to Covid. Hence the unrecoverable expenses.
Both Roger and Kevin are stepping down from their roles, but will be available as mentors.
Survey results:
Submitting entries – 93% approval
Overall experience – 95% approval
Compared to other community-based art shows:
Better than most – 40%
The best – 42%
82% above any other art show! Something to be really proud of.
Roger thanked Di for all the food she provided for the workers at the art show.
There was then a discussion on whether to continue with the art show.
Wendy pointed out that the art show could be a draw card for new members.
There was a lot of discussion around the coincidence with the Wooden Boat Festival.
Jim moved that we plan to have another art show, seconded, all accepted.
Wendy asked who would be on the committee:
Jan Lawrence, Julie Payne, Noeline Biermann, Karen Mitchell, Averil Day, Andy Wood, Duncan Norris, Janet Tapping
Alan – Christmas Festival
Planned for December 13, but may not go ahead.
Building may not be available, or what Covid restrictions may be in place.
One of the issues is that we would need to have Covid check-ins for everyone, which can’t be done with a street parade or a festival if the oval is not fenced.
Alan talked about the history of the festival and the issues in running it with the Lions club.
Alan will ask the board to make a decision to tell the Lions club that we want to keep the Festival.
Lions are running the pageant, and we are running the festival afterwards.
Alan sees the Committee account as a financing and coordinating committee.
Jim proposed a motion that our Ro5try club supports a future Christmas pageant, and carols by candlelight as in the past, under the same funding agreement that was in place in the past. Seconded, Roger. Approved.
Alan can now say to the lion’s club that we will support this, if they say, ‘no’, then we will have to deal with it.
Jim – Hotel meetings
The hotel does now not allow us to meet there on public holidays, or during school holidays. This is leading to the continuity of our meetings being disrupted. Jim therefore proposed that we consider a change, not of venue, as we have the garden room, meals at a reasonable price and our little shed, but of the day, perhaps to a Wednesday, which would solve the problem of meeting on public holidays, but not school holidays.
There was then a lengthy discussion on moving the day of our meetings, and another venue.
Karen asked the board to approve a survey of members to determine which alternative night would suit and suggestions for a regular alternative venue for when we can’t meet at the hotel.
Some alternative venues are, the Pioneer Hall at Middleton, the Goolwa RSL club and the Ambulance Centre.
Council Block of land.
Greg to send a letter to the council registering our interest in one of the blocks for our use.
