- It’s great to see everyone joining in for HAT DAY. Lift the Lid on Mental Illness and help the 1 in 5 people who suffer a mental illness every year.

Proceeds from tonight’s fines and collections will go to mental health research. Last meeting the ball raffle was won by guest Rachel Ngo who wanted to donate back to all members to put towards their meal tonight, however quite a few members have suggested that we donate this to mental health research.
There is a voting box for everyone to enter who they think has the best hat for the evening.
- A reminder that there will not be a meeting on evening of 2nd November.Instead, we will be having a social luncheon for Melbourne Cup here at RSL. 20 Tickets have been held @ $25/head, which includes Complimentary drink on arrival and a 2 course meal.

- Our next meeting after this, on 16th November, will be the District Governor (Jeff Neale) visit. This will be a partner’s night.
Rotary Rollers – Last week we played the first match of the season and in spite of being the only team having their own cheer squad (thank you Noeline & Yvonne), unfortunately resulted in a loss of 16 – 8. However, lots of fun and we were inspired to better ourselves and have met since then to have some coaching and practice. We will keep you updated on our progress!-
- Volunteer hours – The Directors of all committees will now be collating all
volunteer hours that we as Rotarians do. So please take note of the hours that you do each month. Thanks Di, who will provide sheets to record volunteer hours at every meeting.
- Andy is doing a member profile in each bulletin, so please write a few paragraphs about yourself, include photos if possible and share your story. Please forward to Andy. andy.wood@optusnet.com.au This week’s bulletin featured Noeline Biermann’s story. Wendy asked which town in New Zealand Noeline was born and which special day? Hokatika New Zealand on 25th December 1945.

- Board
nominations – It is that time of the year again when we have to be thinking about Board roles for next year. Very shortly you will be receiving nomination forms from Secretary Greg. Please give this some serious thought.
- World Polio Day 24th October – Rotary’s promise of a Polio – Free world – donation of $1,000
- A donation of $500 to Birthing kits for their fundraising drive
- Reminder of the garage sale to be held at Yvonne Hurrell’s Sunday 21st November. Please
save all your good stuff for this.
- Andy asked that if anyone who had electrical items to sell at the garage sale, could they please give them to Andy, as he knows a Rotarian from the Rotary club of Mitchell Park, who will test and tag them free of charge.

Jim Davis - Melbourne Cup Lunch
Jim asked that anyone attending the Melbourne Cup Lunch to see him. The lunch will be chicken salad, followed by dessert.
As this is a ticketed event, make sure you have a ticket, as numbers are limited.

ShelterBox - we have a donation of $1,000.
Yvonne - garage sale
At the garage sale, please bring a table, a chair and whatever you want to sell. Lunch will be supplied if you sell something. Otherwise, put a donation in the box. This is a social day. Cups of tea will be provided and biscuits. Partners are welcome.
Karen reminded us that Yvonne has done an enormous amount of fundraising for wheelchairs and last year we won an award, largely due to her hard work.
Alan Williams - Christmas Concert
Alan needs someone to do the ticketing and the publicity.
He needs someone with computer skills to do this. He asked that anyone with those skills to contact him.
Jan Lawrence - Environment.
Jan, Di and Duncan met with the mayor, Keith Parkes, and other members of the council, regarding the submission to plant and develop the reserve on Beach Rd. The meeting went OK, but we need to do more work and present further plans of the trees and shrubs for the reserve. Currently Jan and Di have 470+ plants. We have to do a more detailed deputation before the November council meeting.
Di Keach - Environment projects
Di informed us that we are continuing to provide a free plant to new residents, through the local real estate agents.
Yhe project that Di started,the canvas bag project is continuing in the Goolwa shopping centre. This project is now funding trees and shrubs for the Beach Rd reserve and has earned around $1400 - 1500. The plant nursery on Hindmarsh Island also gave us a lot of plants. The garden at Calparum is going well.
Alan introduced our Guest speaker Jacinta Hartill from Buckland Community Centre.
As the director of an autism charity, Jacinta talked first about autism. Autism is a condition which affects the way a person's thinking, feeling, interacting with other people and the way they experience their environment. No 2 people with autism are the same. It affects everyone differently. Autism affects 1 in 70 people. Buckland is a resource for the autism community, they put on activities, programs, research and training and information workshops. Buckland has 48 acres, 40 of that is a working farm, and 8 is the grounds and gardens, wetlands and forest. They are starting a community garden.
They encourage people to accept diversity in the community.
Jacinta encouraged everyone to come and have a look at Bucklands.
Alan thanked Jacinta on behalf of the club and presented her with a Rotary pen.
