Di Keach - Environment

The Open Garden will be on again this year for 2 days, October 31 and November 1, provided we have no further restrictions due to Covid 19.
The bag stand in the Mall is stocked again and bags selling well. We have had interruptions in our supply at times, presumably due to Covid. This seems to have improved.

I recently went to the Alexandrina nursery and bought six plants for our garden at the Bristow Smith Reserve (as recommended by Ben Simon) to replace those that had died. They are now planted and have guards around them and other plants have received some attention .

On Monday (27th) I will be going to Calperum to commence working on the re-establishing of the Rotary garden with the staff there.  Perhaps we can follow up with a club visit at a later date. I will bring photos etc for members to share at the next meeting.

Karen Mitchell

Karen reminded the members about the steak and red wine night on 26 August. She also requested that members RSVP as soon as possible so she can let the hotel know the number attending.

Kevin Hales
Kevin requested someone to pick up the Ambulance books and distribute them.
Ron Hann offered to do that.

Michael Scott
Michael endorsed the distribution of the Ambulance books, and emphasised how important they were to those who relied on them.

President Wendy
The theme for Rotary International this year is Rotary Opens Opportunities. The board have all been presented with badges showing this logo.

Calendar – The year ahead

This is going to be a happy year – Happy pills
A club endowing me with the Presidency is a trust you provide in me, not just in the year as President, but also in preparing our club for future sustainability. The recent restrictions have meant that we haven’t been able to meet & thus been able to fundraise.
Reduced budgets this year mean we will do what we can afford to do

My Goals –
  • Satellite Club-will have a Shared vision – a branch of Rotary joining Friends of Rotary & networking local businesses & locals living & working in our community.
A committee has been established & meeting regularly
WHY START A SATELLITE CLUB? Just like starting any Rotary club, forming a satellite club brings community and business leaders together to exchange ideas and take action to improve people’s lives.
Attracts members who have different vocations or service interests
Provides an alternative meeting experience or format where members can experiment with different forms of club organisation
It has the additional benefits of expanding project possibilities, visibility, and the impact of Rotary in our community. It also develops more leaders in our community and the Rotary district.
Fiona Biedermann, Director of Membership District 9510 is hosting a zoom meeting on Saturday 25th July @ 10:30 am
Matt McLeod from Henderson RC in New Zealand will share his experience and the lessons learnt in his district. They’ve started 5 satellite clubs in their district with a few more underway.
