Noeline welcomed everyone
As October 10th was Hat Day, everyone in the club wore an interesting hat and donated to Rotary Health's Lift The Lid, for research into Mental Illness.
The club raised $149.50.
Di Keach - Port Elliot Show
The Goolwa and Victor Harbor Rotary Clubs manned a joint display at the show on October 12 and 13.
Bronwyn Klar - Shelterbox
Bronwyn presented the club with our Bronze Shelterbox award which we aceived in 2018. We also achieved a Silver award this year. Bronwyn briefly talked about her passion for Shelterbox and screened a short video on the effect it is having in places in the world where devastation has left many homeless.
ShelterBox responds to natural disasters such as earthquakes, tropical cyclones, tsunamis, floods and volcanic eruptions. The charity also provides emergency aid to families who have been displaced by war or conflict, in places such as Syria. It is Shelterbox's 20th birthday in 2020. ShelterBox was founded in 2000 in the town of Helston, Cornwall, UK by Rotarian and former Royal Navy search and rescue diver Tom Henderson.
DG Tim Klar - the future of Rotary
As DG of District 9520, Tim informed us that he is there to work for us.
Theme for this year: “Rotary connects the world”
Tim emphasised 5 values:
- Service
- Fellowship
- Diversity
- Integrity
- Leadership
These values reflect Rotary International’s strategic plan.
Tim talked about how Rotary is working with the UN on sustainable development.
He also gave us an insight into a possible new structure for the district and stressed the need to use new technology like a website, Facebook and Instagram and Rotary Central, which can be accessed through My Rotary, and gives Rotarians access to tools, information and online courses to help them develop in their club and district roles, as well as having an impact on their community.
Tim also thought it would be a good idea if we had a signature project like the Surf Life Saving Club.

We will be developing a roster for members to participate in which will include – Rotary information about the projects we support, personal or work stories by members. We are a diverse interesting bunch of people and have much to share.
