Yvonne Hurrell - Wheelchairs
5 or 6 years ago a woman in Goolwa came to Yvonne in the shopping centre and gave her $50. She has often put money in Yvonne's collection tin. The other day she put $100 in her hand.
So she now has enough for another wheelchair.
Alan Williams - Christmas Festival
The committee did a preliminary budget last week - it will cost nearly $6000 to put the concert on. We have $3000 left from the old Christmas Festival fund, hopefully we will get a $2000 grant from the Alexandrina Council and Alan has asked the club's Community Committee to provide a further $1000.
The budget includes a stage twice the normal size due to Covid physical distancing, food for performers and volunteers.
Jim Davis - Christmas in the shopping centre
The Community committee have decided to go ahead with helping decorate the shopping centre and to hold the Christmas raffle again. We have permission to hold the Christmas stocking raffle. Jim asked for members to help organise the Christmas Raffle. Last year, all costs were covered by donations and vouchers.
Rachel Ngo won the raffle of $150 and very kindlay donated it back to the club towards next meeting's meals.
Guest Speaker - Paul Ngo
Andy introduced Paul, who has just started a company called Senior Helpers. Paul talked about home Care Packages, which
provide help for seniors, to allow them to stay at home, rather than moving to an aged care facility.
There are 2 requirements for eligibility:
1. Over 65, or 50 for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders
2. Noticeable recent permanent change to your health.
Funding is income assessable, so participants may have to pay some cost.
There are 4 levels of packages:
The lowest being for basic care and the highest for high intensive daily care.
The level of package will be assessed by interview.
Currently there are about 100,000 people on the waiting list.
The government plans to issue 80,000 packages in the next 2 years.
An aged care provider will work with you to create a talior-made plan to provide the services that suit your needs and circumstances.
It is important to understand when you need a home care package and what services you are entitled to.
Contact My Aged Care or OPAN (Old People's Advocacy Network), or an independent aged care provider.
Andy thanked Paul and presented him with a pen on behalf of the club.
