Yvonne Hurrell - Wheelchairs
5 or 6 years ago a woman in Goolwa came to Yvonne in the shopping centre and gave her $50. She has often put money in Yvonne's collection tin. The other day she put $100 in her hand.
So she now has enough for another wheelchair.

Alan Williams - Christmas Festival
The committee did a preliminary budget last week - it will cost nearly $6000 to put the concert on. We have $3000 left from the old Christmas Festival fund, hopefully we will get a $2000 grant from the Alexandrina Council and Alan has asked the club's Community Committee to provide a further $1000.
The budget includes a stage twice the normal size due to Covid physical distancing, food for performers and volunteers.

Jim Davis - Christmas in the shopping centre
The Community committee have decided to go ahead with helping decorate the shopping centre and to hold the Christmas raffle again. We have permission to hold the Christmas stocking raffle. Jim asked for members to help organise the Christmas Raffle. Last year, all costs were covered by donations and vouchers.

Rachel Ngo won the raffle of $150 and very kindlay donated it back to the club towards next meeting's meals.

Guest Speaker - Paul Ngo

Andy introduced Paul, who has just started a company called Senior Helpers. Paul talked about home Care Packages, which
provide help for seniors, to allow them to stay at home, rather than moving to an aged care facility.
There are 2 requirements for eligibility:
   1. Over 65, or 50 for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders
   2. Noticeable recent permanent change to your health.
Funding is income assessable, so participants may have to pay some cost.
There are 4 levels of packages:
The lowest being for basic care and the highest for high intensive daily care.
The level of package will be assessed by interview.
Currently there are about 100,000 people on the waiting list.
The government plans to issue 80,000 packages in the next 2 years.
An aged care provider will work with you to create a talior-made plan to provide the services that suit your needs and circumstances.
It is important to understand when you need a home care package and what services you are entitled to.
Contact My Aged Care or OPAN (Old People's Advocacy Network), or an independent aged care provider.

Andy thanked Paul and presented him with a pen on behalf of the club.

Wendy closed the meeting at 8:39 with this year’s theme - LET US SERVE TO CHANGE LIVES.

Next meeting on Tuesday October 19th at the Goolwa RSL Club at 6:30 for a 7pm start. Don't forget to give Greg your meal orders.

Member Profile - Noeline Biermann

A potted history of my wonderful life
Noeline Biermann
I was born in Hokatika New Zealand on 25th December 1945,
the middle child of 3 girls.
Grew up on the West Coat of the South Island in numerous small country towns until we moved to Christchurch where I went to High School.
At 15 yrs of age I started my working life, as an aged care assistant, at Burwood Hospital. My sister was a Registered Nurse there and we were not allowed to speak to each other. Officially we didn’t. I just visited her when matron was elsewhere.
At 17, In 1963 I started my Nursing Training at the Christchurch School of Nursing.

In 1969 I travelled to Melbourne to work at St Vincent’s Hospital. Travel paid one way for 6 months work.
In November 1969 I applied for a Nursing position at the Alice Springs Hospital. Return travel for 3 months work.
I Lived, Worked, Married, had a daughter Karen and a son Gary, Separated from Husband, Undertook Midwifery training and rose to Deputy Director of Nursing during the next 18 years.
In 1987 I moved to Darwin to work as Deputy Director of Nursing and Relief DON at Royal Darwin Hospital.

In 1992 I ran away from home and took a job in Sydney working for an American company selling, installing and supporting Computer software for Staff management in Hospitals. My clients were in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, UK and anywhere else I was asked to visit.

In 1988 I was introduced to Rotary in Darwin when I won their Polio Raffle. In 1989 I was invited to become a member of the Rotary Club of Darwin Sunrise.  I was President Elect before I left for Sydney in 1992. I attended the Rotary Club of Rockdale and within 6 months was their President. Despite travelling constantly, members asked that I be their President and they would do the work.

In 2001, I left Sydney and came to South Australia after my son introduced me to Goolwa. I moved in and joined the Rotary Club of Goolwa in 2002.  In 2005 and 2015 I was asked to be President.
Rotary has always been a huge part of my life and I thoroughly enjoy the activities and the friendships.

My family consists of
A.   1 daughter, son in Law, granddaughter and grandson and their partners.
B.    1 Son and daughter in law, 5 granddaughters and 7 great grandchildren. Love them all.
C.    2 Japanese Chin Dogs.
D.     Rotary Friends

Noeline Biermann
The Four-Way Test is the cornerstone of all action. It has been for years, and it will be in the future. Of the things we think, say or do …

  • Is it the TRUTH?
  • Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  • Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER Friendships?
  • Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
A bit of Humour
