President Andy welcomed everyone and acknowledged birthdays and anniversaries.

 

On Saturday September 30^th, 5 of our members attended the Rotary Mini-Expo at the Yankalilla Show. From our club were Andy, Jan, Tony, David and Meredith.

There were also members from Rotary Clubs of Whyalla, Seaford, McLaren Vale, Morphett Vale, Strathalbyn and Yankalilla. There were displays and information about various projects. We all enjoyed some great fun, fellowship, and a few laughs.

The trailer raffle has now finished, and President Andy presented the winner Rob with the trailer on Sunday afternoon. He is a local man, who runs his own landscaping business. He was delighted with the trailer, and his mother, who owns an Alpaca herd nearby already had her eye on it for transporting Alpacas.
He will be advertising his business on our business noticeboard.

President-Elect Jan and President Andy attended the President's meeting via Zoom on Saturday October 23^rd. The meeting was attended by Presidents from the Rotary clubs of Victor Harbor, Seaford and Encounter Bay.

 

We will be holding a Referendum Day BBQ at the Uniting Church polling booth on October 14th. Please contact Secretary Noeline if you can help on the day. 

 

Duncan and Andy attended a fundraising lunch organised by the Goolwa Rowing Club on Sunday 24th September. There is a possible fundraising opportunity which requires investigation.

The Christmas Festival Committee held a meeting 27th of September. The Christmas Concert is going ahead and will run from 6- 9 on Sunday December 17th but will not be held if the temperature is over 35 degrees or if the weather is inclement.

 

President Andy received an update from CEO of ShelterBox, Mike Greenslade outlining the natural disasters that have occurred in Morocco and Libya recently that require assistance.

1) Secretary Noeline Biermann

    A spot needs to be filled for Referendum BBQ. Start time 0730. Sausages will be $3 and burgers $5. Will finish at 1400. We will advertise this on the noticeboards.

 

2) Member Tony McWhinney

    Reminder about the Garage Sale being held at Yvonne Hurrell's house. We will not be selling any electrical goods. We have scheduled this for Sunday 5th November (weather permitting), to coincide with the market. 

 

3) Director Public Image and Membership Jan Lawrence

  Good to see Rotary members at the Raffle Draw in their teal shirts. 

   

4) Member Di Keach

   Wants to draw attention of Live Export Trade conditions to all members. See Di if you want information.

Area Governor Linda Sweeney inducted new member Linda Steffens into the RC Goolwa. Linda was presented with her badge, etc, by Secretary Noeline. Linda's Mentor will be Janet. Welcome Linda.

Guest Speaker - Elizabeth Davis ROMAC

Unfortunately due to a technical glitch Elizabeth couldn't show her PowerPoint presentation, but she gave presented us with a really informative insight into the great work performed by ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children). This vital work, which has been ongoing for 33 years is very expensive to run, and it costs approximately $35,000/child annually for their surgical treatment. The Women's and Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald House have signed an MOU to perform 4x general surgeries for $5,000 and 1x craniofacial surgery for $35,000. Funds are still needed to cover transport, accommodation and food for the Carer to accompany the patient. Elizabeth introduced Sue Morisset from RC Encounter Bay who has joined the ROMAC team.

Elizabeth was presented with a cheque for $500 on behalf of the RC Goolwa by Tony and Bronnie from the International Committee.

Following our meal and Fellowship, fines were issued and Happy and Sad dollars collected. Meredith's number was drawn in the raffle, but she drew a white ball, so prize jackpots to next meeting.

 

President's Closing Remarks

President Andy thanked all visitors, closed the meeting and reminded everyone that as Rotarians we should do all we can to "Work together and Create Hope".

 

 

Other News

Spring has sprung at Centenary Park Reserve. Thanks to all the hard work of the Environment team, the plants are blooming and coming into flower. First blooms are shown below by Director Meredith and President-Elect Jan at the site. The Environment members will be busy for the next six months ensuring the plants survive and thrive over summer.
