From Erika Mikkola, UWayTBay:

On behalf of the United Way of Thunder Bay’s GenNext, I wanted to reach out fast to share we have launched a new spin on the traditional Days of Caring … MINI DAYS OF CARING (DOC)!!

Essentially, Mini DOC is the same as our normal big one-day event BUT instead of one day, Mini DOC will take place at different times until the end of 2021. Organizations, groups, and not-for-profits can apply for volunteer help with a project at any time and then we will fulfill their volunteer requirements by offering meaning volunteer opportunities to individuals, groups, and workplaces in the community. Day of Caring should be just one day, but every day. See website for more details – project requests & volunteer opportunities open now. https://uwaytbay.ca/event/mini-days-of-caring/

Our next Mini Days of Caring project is coming up this week on Thursday, October 7th and we are still looking for volunteers!

Sign up as an individual or with your friends, family, or workplace team!! Network, team build, connect, and give back!

Here are all the details:

Overview:
Rehabilitation at Fisherman’s Park West is a project undertaken by Lakehead Region Conservation Authority, in partnership with the City of Thunder Bay and the Thunder Bay District Stewardship Council.  Management of invasive species, reestablishment of wildlife habitat, and creation of coastal wetland are the main goals of the Fisherman’s Park West Climate Change Awareness Park. Together, we will restore the park by returning the area to a more naturalized condition which will provide valuable breeding grounds, shelter, and forage for migratory waterfowl, birds, and pollinators, while also creating a space where the public can explore and enjoy the beautiful natural landscape. The main tasks for the volunteer day will include landscaping and planting over 1,300 plants (raking, digging, moving mulch, spreading seed), installing trees, shrubs and perennials, watering plants, and site clean-up.

Volunteer time slots are from 10 – 1 P.M. OR 1 – 4 P.M.

Approximately 30-35 volunteers are needed for each time slot
