Port Arthur Rotary Meeting August 13th, 2024
Today’s meeting, ably chaired by PE Hector Dougall, brought us Kieran McMonagle, Youth and Family Services Collaborator for the City of Thunder Bay (photo below). The Youth and Family Support Program (YFSP) aims to mitigate vulnerabilities, such as substance use, violence, and human trafficking that put youth and families at greater risk of criminal exploitation. The target population is youth aged 10-13 but is flexible to cater to both younger and older youth and their families. The program collaborates with organizations such as Our Kids Count, Evergreen United Neighbourhood and Thunder Bay Counselling. Kieran’s presentation was very well received and there were questions that she answered confidently with her knowledge and experience. Rotarians were keen to learn how we might support this type of program, and it was clear that we need to keep listening and learning and sharing what we know about this risk to our youth.
