   President's Report

I am pleased to be back from my sojourn and to see you all again.
I have been informed that the meeting on the 11th went well and that the speaker was informative albeit brief. Jenny organized members to briefly speak at the meeting to cover the time slot and that went well.
The late-night shopping event that was held last Thursday was carried out in the hot conditions in Springwood square. We had plenty of members and friends to man the event and it was well run by those present. Cudos to Santa (Warwick)and his elf (Cheryl), who both did a magnificent job in the heat, keeping the children entertained. Susan Templeman was full of praise for both Santa and the Elf. Thanks also to Josh and his parents for their great help on the day.
Bunnings was run on Saturday past. It again was a hot old affair. Thank you to all involved in the day. Well run by all.
Paul and Suzanne Erikson once again hosted around 40 Rotarians and Friends at their place for our annual Christmas party. All who attended appeared to have a great time and the food was delicious. There were a few people who could not attend due to illness, either theirs or partners. Bruce and Deborah, Tony and Annette and Fred were unable to make the event but were remembered. Kevin and Silvia sent their best wishes while they were watching the sunset up the coast over a bit of bubbly.
Have a great Xmas everyone and stay safe and well.

We have held the last two BBQs for 2023 in the last week. Hooray, I hear some of you say! I know BBQs seem to come thick and fast at times and I noted that I have organised 27 BBQs this calendar year. However, BBQs are important fund-raising activities for the Club and they, with a major contribution from the raffle which Jenny K organised so well, make up almost all the fund raising for the Club. With this in mind I encourage you all to volunteer when you can to man these fund-raising events in the coming year.
Having put in my pitch for the new year, the last two BBQs were held on the two hottest days of the past week. The Late Night Shopping event, after a somewhat shaky start trying to 'shoe horn' our operation into a forced reduction of space outside the pharmacy in very oppressive conditions of a humid 38 degs C, produced a reasonable result for the Club's penultimate BBQ for 2023 with a  profit is $634 plus $90.95 in donations giving an overall profit of  $724.95. It was noticeable that the crowds were down on last year due mainly to the heat, and after the show was over the numbers dissipated very quickly. I would like to note that Santa (Warwick) and his Elf (Cheryl) were a great hit with the families and they soldiered on through the heat and direct sun from start to finish. Well done!!!
The last BBQ for the year was the Bunnings event last Saturday. Again, a very warm day of 35 degs C, and windy (actually a total fire ban day) which affected the numbers of people passing through Bunnings hence affected our sales. Nonetheless, our volunteers soldiered on and, although the last shift petered out customer-wise, our sales profit of $444 with donations of $68 giving an overall profit of $512 was still very reasonable.  The raffle was also drawn at 12.30pm 'and the winner is Jenny K'!!!! An appropriate winner given the amount of work Jenny put into raffle. Thank you Jenny for the organisation and running of the raffle which will add a healthy number of $s to the Club's profits for the year.
Our fund-raising activities for the 2024 will begin with a BBQ at the ORI Hotel on Fri 5 Jan and the regular Bunnings BBQ, held the 3rd Sat of each month, on Sat 20 Jan. We will also be providing a complementary BBQ for the public, funded by the Australia Day Committee, on 26 January at the Faulconbridge Aquatic Centre. Please note these in your new diary.
In closing, Deborah and I wish you all a Merry Christmas with you and yours, and a safe, healthy and happy New Year. We missed the opportunity of saying this face-to-face at the Christmas Party because I managed to catch the cold virus which is doing the rounds at the moment, and we didn’t want to pass it on to anyone. See you all in 2024 and thank you for your support throughout 2023.

Faulconbridge Public School Presentation Day

On Tuesday, I was very pleased to represent our club at this presentation day. As on old schoolie it was great to sit in the  front row, rather than on the floor supervising children! I was most impressed to be part of our community supporting tomorrow's leaders. I presented Emma with an involvement award, which was richly deserved.

Elly Fitzgeraldson (nee Saw) - Exchange Student

Dear Rotarians
Many of you may remember the Winmalee High student you sent to Brazil about 15 years ago, Elly Saw.
I wanted you to know that she now has her Doctorate, having graduated last week.
Her Youth Exchange year was pivotal in setting her path as an adult and I wanted you to know of this massive achievement for Dr. Elly Fitzgeraldson. She's living in Newcastle but if you ever need an advocate for youhh exchange I'd recommend her.
Warm regards

Raffle Winners and Results

As at Wednesday 6 Dec, our takings were $5152.65 plus at least another $120 still to come in. We will probably fall just short of the predicted $5,000 profit, mainly because we had a greater uptake of the 5 tickets for $20 option than in previous years. Nonetheless, it is a great result.
1st prize - Jenny Kroonstuiver, ticket 0797
2nd prize - Liz Roberts, ticket 0747
3rd prize - Kerrie ticket 0219
4th prize - Scott ticket 0471
