  President's Report

A short Springword this week as preparations were afoot for this weekends dual (or is that dueling) BBQs both a Bunnings (240 sausages) on Saturday and Carinya Daycares 40th Anniversay celebration (312 sausages) on Sunday. Couple that with handling the parking for the Spectacles at Norman Lindsay Gallery Saturday evening and the volunteers have a VERY busy weekend ahead of them!

I of course cannot neglect to mention our dauntless Raffle ticket sellers who have been busy this week. (please see report below). Well done!!

Monday night's speaker is our own Bruce W. talking about his own experiences in Vietnam during the war. (See below).

Let me also call your attention to the right hand column and the schedule of meetings there. We have the AGM on Nov. 28th, the Christmas Party on Dec. 12th and NO MEETINGS until we recommence on January 16th.

Please note we do have another Bunnings BBQ on Dec. 17th.

Regarding the AGM any member who wishes to raise a general business at the AGM must have it in writing (email) to the club Secretary by the 21st of November (Next Monday!) Paul Ericson is the Secretary Click here>> Email <<

Faulconbridge Primary School Origin Day BBQ

Report by Bruce W.

The Faulconbridge Primary School Origin Day BBQ got off to an inauspicious start the day before when the Principal of the school asked for the BBQ lunch to be served at 11pm versus 12pm. Luckily, all our inherently flexible volunteers rejigged their plans and the set up went ahead very smoothly with the trailer underneath the cover outside the school hall.

We were ready to go at the appointed hour but no kiddies for another 15 minutes. Eventually we got under way and, although we were busy, the expected rush did not ensue with the children moving through at a steady but manageable pace. Roger B and Paul kept the BBQ burning and Bill kept the sausages coming; Margaret and Deborah, Dee and Marilyn served the fare with panache; while Warwick and Colin sauced away and Bruce was outside the serving area trying to organise the children.

The work safety plan sprung into action when Marilyn ‘lit up’ the event after a serviette was picked up by an ill-wind and blown into the Bain Marie burner – but all handled very safely and swiftly. And then it was over after 1 ¼ hours service. The school over-catered somewhat and we only served about 300 of the 400 sausages but all the children who wanted one had one and many of the P&C volunteers and school teachers ended up with a bonus lunch.

Everyone pitched in and the clean-up take down went swiftly and smoothly. A great team effort handled in a most convivial manner – thanks to all.

Editors Note: There were no pictures as the steady flow of clients precluded taking them...

Vietnam - Not a Boy's Own Adventure

Bruce W. - Speaker

I have entitled the talk ‘Vietnam – Not a Boy’s Own Adventure’. Basically, I will relate a series of anecdotes, some serious, some humorous and many self-deprecating about my experience of going to war as a naïve country boy and coming home a lot wiser.
Acknowledgement of Country
We would like to acknowledge the Gundungurra and Darug peoples past, present and emerging as the traditional owners of the land where our Club resides and pay our respects to them.
