The contribution of your vocational talents to solving the problems of society and meeting the needs of the community.
President's Report
Wishing you a happy Australia Day. As I reflect on the importance of this day, so much of what it is to be a Rotarian is also about what it is to be truly Australian.
As we know the four Way Test serves us as an ethical guide on how best to live our lives:
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICAL to all concerned?
I think as Australians we generally value the qualities outlined in the four way test, in particular the importance of fairness, goodwill and mateship/friendships.
In our current world we have so much to be thankful for to live in Australia, where we enjoy the many benefits, privileges and freedoms that are being challenged elsewhere. It therefore behoves us to continue to value these and work together to make them available to others.
The work of Rotary is important, and we see the outcomes of this in so many places, both close to home and in far flung places across the world. As we move forward in the new year, I challenge each and every one of us to think about what we can do individually and collectively to live the Rotary values and continue to strive to make our world a better place.
At our next meeting, we will welcome four new members to our Club, I hope as many of you as possible will be there to welcome them as they start their Rotary journey of service to others.
So, speaking of service - Rotary Clubs are Service Clubs; we are charged with undertaking service for the betterment of others. This service can take a number of forms and over the years our Club has been involved in many activities that have both involved direct provision of service and more broadly in undertaking service via fundraising activities that then allows us to fund important humanitarian work in many places in the world. I ask each of you to consider the service opportunities offered by our Club and the ones that you can contribute to in this new year.
Finally, and very easy way to put a few dollars into the Club coffers is via the recycling Return and Earn program. You can either do this by using the barcode provided in this newsletter, or as I do just collect the vouchers that the machine issues and then forward these dollars to the Club bank account, with a text or email to Bill advising him of the deposit. Also, I’m more than happy to collect the bottles and cans from you and process them, you can either bring them to a meeting or ask me to collect them.

3. FAMILY FUN DANCE
Following, you will find the flier for this exciting fundraising event, all details are there.
It is being held on Saturday 28th February at 5.00 to 8.00 in the evening at the Old Farm, 35 Purvine Rd, Yellow Rock.
For this event to be successful we will require a team of our trusty helpers for the evening in the following areas:
parking attendants 3 people 4.45pm - 7.45pm
front gate registration checking, raffle ticket selling 3 people 4.45pm-7.45pm
BBQ trailer cooking, serving and sale 5 people 5-7pm
Dessert server 1 person 6.30-7pm
Dam watcher (kids) 1 person 4.45-7.45pm
ShelterBox support for their display team 1 person 5-7pm
Kindly contact Al Kellway to indicate where you are able to help, so a roster will be prepared.
4. IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL BULLETIN SUBSCRIBERS.
A number of scam emails have been sent to Rotarions and others. They look like this, or very close to the following:
"I need you to handle a request for me discreetly, as I am about to go into a meeting and will have limited communication. Please note that I won’t be able to text or take calls—email replies only. I’ll keep an eye on this email and look forward to hearing back from you.
Thank you"
These are scams. They usually ask you to buy a number of gift cards or vouchers and to send them to the alleged sender. Please do not reply to them, or fulfill the requests. The people who supposedly sent the email do not know anything about them, and they are shocked when notified. Please delete them from your email inbox and from the deleted files as well.

When you report a club officer’s name to Rotary International through My Rotary (or by recording it in your club management software and syncing the information), the officer receives an automated welcome email from learn@rotary.org. It will include a link to the learning plan for that role. We encourage incoming officers to take these courses before they attend district learning events, such as presidents-elect learning seminars and club leadership learning seminars. (Note that districts may have other names for these events.)
