  President's Report

Well, what a great 5 days on Norfolk Island. Although cut short by 2 days following the impact of the Cyclone we managed to fit in everything that had been planned for the 7 days.

From all reports Richard from Springwood Historical Society kept all interested with his extensive knowledge of Springwood’s history and PE Frank managed to keep everyone well behaved!!

Community Director Bruce advised me that despite firstly HOT weather, followed by WET weather, a successful Bunnings was held on the 18th. Thanks to all involved.

A huge WELL DONE to Membership Director PP Jenny on a very successful membership awareness night on Tuesday. Whilst the numbers were a little less than hoped, our members present conveyed some personal Rotary stories and a limited amount of Rotary information and we all feel, that in view of the questions asked and general interest in our programmes, we will benefit by several new members.

This weekend we have a busy two days BBQing at Norman Lindsay Gallery which should swell our Community coffers a little more. Thank you to all who have volunteered some time out of busy lives.

Looking forward to a different, fun event on Monday evening at the Barefoot Bowling, followed by dinner, at the Sports Club painstakingly organised by our hard-working Administration Director Dee.

Don't forget the Men's Morning Tea on the 1st at Winmalee Village!

This is a big weekend for the Club at the Norman Lindsay Gallery on both Saturday and Sunday; although we don’t have any idea of the numbers of the public which will pass through the gates at the Gallery, we are hoping it will be a good and profitable weekend for the Club. The weather has luckily cleared up and temperature on the rise to 28 on Saturday and 32 on Sunday. Thank you for all who have volunteered to facillitate this event.

Saturday the 4th of March is the Club’s next money making event; parking assistance for the Norman Lindsay Gallery Jazz Night. We are in some trouble at the moment in manning this event – so far I have 5 starters, one possible and 13 unable to assist. I understand that members have other commitment to do for that afternoon, and I will be disappointed to have to cancel what is a long-standing commitment with another club. Many have not yet replied and I ask that those who are not yet committed to dig deep because we do not have enough volunteers yet to honour our commitment.

Following on from the NLG commitment on the 4th we have the monthly Bunnings BBQ on the 18th of March followed by the election BBQ to be held on Saturday the 25th of March.

Last weeks Bunnings BBQ was very successful considering that the last shift shut down at 3pm due to heat and an impending thunderstorm which hit as we tidied up the last of the pack up. We only got slightly wet. A few of us took shelter in a local business to wait out the deluge:

We will then go through to dinner at 6:30,I will be there to make show you where our tables are.You order your meal from the menu and pay at the register. Drinks at the bar.

Please remember to bring a hat or to be sun safe. Don’t forget to paint your toenails!

Turkiye and Syria Response

Rotary.org

SOUTH PACIFIC & PHILIPPINES OFFICE: THE ROTARY fOUNDATION TEAM

The Rotary Foundation has responded with specific action in response to the tragedy in Türkiye and Syria. While Rotary and Rotarians are not generally first responders, we do have clubs and members across the devastated areas, and these Rotarians have requested our help. Local clubs and members are best placed to understand the immediate needs of those affected.

In order to provide direct action, the Disaster Response option on www.rotary.org has been replaced with a button that reads Türkiye/Syria Disaster Response Fund. This will stay active on the Rotary website till 31 March 2023. In addition:
  • The Trustees immediately made available more than $125,000 to Rotary districts affected by the earthquake through Disaster Response Grants for immediate disaster response.
  • The lead story on Rotary.org and My.Rotary.org about Rotary responding to the earthquake has been updated to include information about helping by giving through the general disaster response fund.
  • A video from RIP Jennifer Jones has been shared on social media with a call to action to donate to the Turkey/Syria Disaster Response Fund. The video can be viewed on Face Book, Twitter and Instagram.

For further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at risppo.trf@rotary.org.
